*In November 1993, inspired by the longing to perform as an entertainer like so many in different fields of entertainment, I bought my first pair of turntables to playback the few records I had gathered up to that point in time.
*This led to me developing as a DJ at a rate I felt I could handle, with no training from any external source. I was in no rush to be what, at that time, I hadn’t considered fully – a professional quality DJ. I just wanted to listen to dope records that I had heard growing up. I was 19 back then, so I’d been introduced to the sounds of Motown, Dub reggae, African music, Pop music, Jazz, Funk, blues, Country & Western, classical music, easy listening, theme music from movies, like most people.
Over the years, DJing had beckoned me and once I felt I was in position, I bought my first turntables. I felt I could cut and paste more easily as I had done years before with my pause tape techniques. It was just the next natural step to go into music more seriously. Over the years since, I have played in clubs, house parties, boat parties, overseas, wedding receptions, birthday parties, anniversaries and bars – practically any place in need of my presence to add to the event.
*I have also been on stage shows, performing with MCs (Braintax courtesy of Low Life Records) and singers, (Liason courtesy of TNT/Xxplosive Records) cueing and scratching backing tracks. I am a live performer and thrive off making the crowd feel like they have come to something of an event, and not just a night out.
*My record collection is now at a point that I had to give it its own identity, hence my banner name of Sonic Catalog. Self explanatory, really. I intend to build my musical base on that name, in conjunction with all other factions in music and beyond that I get to work with, in order to build a solid enterprise that includes Music Production.
*The name I chose to run with (after being known as another name in my formative years), Midas, came to me as a result of the props I got at every jam by the year 2000. I have a keen ear for rhythm and mood, so it’s a natural feeling.
