The Stanzas

About Me

The Stanzas were formed as a reaction to the depoliticised music that permeates modern culture. Taking their cue from artists such as Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, & Bruce Springsteen, The Stanzas aim to create a stripped down, bare bones style of music, often recorded on the most basic equipment available, that centres on transferring polictical ideals and social commentary from one person to another. The ideal Stanzas recording should contain as little musical confusion as possible, i.e. only the things that NEED to be in the song are there, combined with clear and concise and thought provoking ideas about the given subject matter. The Stanzas have been experimenting with their sound & ideas for several years, and in 2008 plan to expose their music & message to a wider audience.

Sounds Like: Here are some thoughts about the 4 songs on this profile...HOUNDIN' MY SOUL This song is about Woody Guthrie's childhood home, I wrote it after reading Bound For Glory...and used images Guthrie's words inspired...ENOUGH ROPE This song is about a relationship in which one person puts in place all the elements that purposefully engineer the downfall of their partner.FAMILY OF THE VICTIM This song is about how people who are deflecting focus from the details of tragedies, try to discourage you from asking questions by saying it's upsetting the families of the victims. When in most cases it the those families who are the most interested to know the truth, and most angry about the actions of those TRULY at fault.JUDGEMENT DAY This song illustrates the state of sleep we all live in, and tries to help awaken you from the false reality that we all deep down know is a lie, (money, media etc), but somehow convince ourselves is real. It's about believing in two opposing realities, believing the truth & the lies simultaneously. Or as Orwell put it: two mutually contradictory beliefs, 'doublethink'.
