Insect Idol

About Me

Insect Idol began life as a punk rock trio and ended as a band that was one of the most popular bands of the post punk movement in Los Angeles. Formed in 1979 by Bass player, Matthew Asner, Drummer, Adam Wolf and guitarists, Nick Geber and Randy Ralston. They played clubs in Los Angeles and San Francisco and created a solid following with fun songs with titles like Taco Bell, Society's Burden and a gritty version of the Little Richard hit, The Girl Can't Help It. Heavily influenced by the new crop of British Post Punk Legends, Joy Division, The Cure,The Sound and Echo And The Bunnymen, Insect Idol shifted Asner from bass to vocals, switched Randy Ralston to bass and Josh Gordon and then Steve Weisburd on drums. Their sound changed from straight ahead punk to a fresher post punk sound. Over the next two years Insect Idol, along with bands like Kommunity FK, Afterimage, Middle Class,Choir Invisible and Christian Death became one of the most popular Post Punk bands in the West Coast Post Punk scene. In 1982, with the oldest member in the band being 18, they decided to go their separate ways. It's members moved on to bands such as Afterimage, Greta, Grand Manner, The Carousel, Buzz Clic (Rubber City Rebels),Strawberry Blue, Fields Laughing, Pop Art and The Big Sky.
