Admission: £5.00 / Students £4.00 (valid ID required).

Open from 11.00PM - 3.00AM.
Note there is usually another club night running on the ground floor within Studio 24 on the night, typically playing rock and metal. Your entry fee will also allow you entry to this as well, however, it will help us if you mention that you are primarily visiting Ascension when entering!

History

Ascension is one of Edinburgh's longest running alternative nights. Beginning back in 1993, the night was originally conceived as a vehicle for putting on live bands in the capital. However, it quickly became clear that people wanted it to be a club event as well and accordingly this is how it evolved over the following years.

Originally held at the now defunct Cas Rock on West Portland Street, the club later moved to Holyrood Union (now the Bongo Club) where it remained for a number of years until that venue also closed its doors. During that time it consolidated its reputation as one of the leading Alternative clubs in Edinburgh.

The club moved to Teviot House in 2001, and since that time has gone from strength to strength, regularly attracting a wide audience from both Edinburgh and further afield. Now in 2007, the club has moved once more, this time taking advantage of newly refurbished facilities at legendary Edinburgh venue Studio 24.

Gigs

Although now primarily a club night, Ascension has continued to play an important role over the years bringing a variety of quality alternative bands to play in Edinburgh including some of the scenes biggest names, including VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, XPQ-21, Dream Disciples, Crüxshadows, Rossetta Stone, Nekromantik, Corpus Delicti, S.P.O.C.K and Man(i)kin.

About Dark City Events

Dark City Events is the collective banner for all events conceived and organised by the Ascension team. Our headline event is the three day Dark City festival which began in 2004 and has quickly established itself as one of the UK's leading annual alternative music festivals. Bands that have played Dark City include VNV Nation (2004), XPQ-21 (2004), The Mission (2004), Icon of Coil (2005), Rotersand (2005), Pride and Fall (2004), Clan of Xymox (2005) and Combichrist (2005).
