Tango's first drum machine was a Korg DDD-5, which he and a friend stole from this kid that lived behind him because he wouldn't let him borrow it. After a split with his partner-in-crime (literally), Tango decided that gear, gear, and more gear was what he wanted to be surrounded by and set out to do just that.
"I've been a gearhead forever. Back when you weren't doing shit if you weren't doing it on an SP-1200. I never owned an SP-1200, but I would try to do the things I heard cats doing on them with my gear. I had a Yamaha RX8, an Alesis MMT8, and I later acquired an HR16B (the black one with the bass drop... loved it!). From there I finally got an Ensoniq ASR10, and the rest is history." relates Tango.
Not that doing beats in the software of today is a problem (ask 9th Wonder), Tango came up in the days before Fruity Loops and Acid. "I wish they'd had that back in the day, before I spent the thousands of dollars that I've spent. I became a producer out of neccesity, kinda like David Banner. Cats wouldn't give me what I was lookin' for, so I decided to start producing my own music. I still primarily do it for myself, although I will drop a beat for someone else every now and then. I'm like Havoc (from Mobb Deep), it's hard to let go of a hot one, why wouldn't you keep it for yourself?"
Tango's produced tracks for Pony Xodus ("So Damn Florida"), C-Locc ("Shyne Remix", "Trill Ni*ggaz") and the Southern Dialect Family ("Dwellaz Nite Out", ""Shoulda Waited"), as well as his own group, Dead Zone Dwellaz, and is now ready to embark on his first solo effort. "I never really wanted to be a solo artist, I have always had a group. But there's a freedom that comes from being alone, and that's the fact that everyone doesn't have to agree on the beat, and you won't likely stab yourself in your own back over petty personal shit and keep good music from being made."
