Trip to Dover

About Me

Young guns in a big industry, but these guys don’t mind. They’re happy doing what they do. Which seems to be working for them. Having formed in 2008 after meeting in Coventry, they moved to Brighton with high ambitions. They set about playing anywhere and everywhere they could.
With a mix of rock and electronic synth based sound and a powerfull female lead vocal TRIP TO DOVER quickly developed an original sound and a reputation for their solid and exuberant live show.
Now TRIP TO DOVER has a large gig history despite their recent start having played all over the UK, as well as having a growing presence in Europe (Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic and Sweden). Even with an ecstatic live show, it is offstage that they excel, being the friendliest bunch of musicians you’re likely to meet.

TRIP TO DOVER is two Dutch people and two English folks. Olga (vocals/guitar) and Johannes (keys) left Holland two years ago to pursue an unlikely career change, into music. Lewis (drums) and Rob (bass) also moved to Coventry where all four members attended a music college. Despite various musical projects during the year, it wasn’t until the back end of the course that they realised they all had similar ideas about making music. This discovered, they set about forming the band it is today.
Knowing where they wanted to go, but not knowing how to get there was the initial challenge.
It was a lot of hard work and a steep learning curve but with success. After only a few weeks some shows in the Czech Republic came up, so the band set about crafting new songs to go with the ones they’d already written to form a set worthy of the first ‘tour’. The band continued playing locally, and very quickly in other towns/cities too. Rob dropped out of uni after one term deciding that he wanted to concentrate on the band full time, along with his bandmates.
In February 2009 the band embarked on a short but sweet tour to their (half) native Holland. This furthered their audience on the mainland.
After this the band played a short run of shows in the midlands and north of England, which they called, from a southern perspective, the ‘Up North tour’.
It was after this that it really kicked off. Trip to Dover got ready for almost three months straight on the road. In May 2009, only 7 months after the band got together, TRIP TO DOVER set out on their first ‘official’ UK tour, aptly titled MAYDAY! MAYDAY!, for a few days shy of the whole month. Nearly as soon as this ended they set out on the road again in Europe to support their newly self released EP Celestial Objects, playing in Holland, Germany, Czech Republic and Sweden.
Celestial Objects started in March 09. It was the first time the band recorded together and producer Mark Edwards was the counterpoint the band needed to get their live energy and melodic synth lines on disc form. The band self released their debut EP Celestial Objects on 6th June 2009, and have since been selling it at all their shows as well as online on the likes of iTunes and Amazon.
Knowing where they want to go, but now with a better idea how to get there…
…backed up with live experience, an EP, and also fans and industry people talking about a new and fresh sound coming from this band…
…TRIP TO DOVER is looking forward to another year… and many more.
