Can you imagine a world without breast cancer? It’s hard, given how pervasive the disease is. But go ahead, let yourself envision that world. Because it's not a fantasy. It’s a reality within our grasp. Each step we take on the Breast Cancer 3-Day brings us closer to ending the disease forever.
The Breast Cancer 3-Day
The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. 85% of the net proceeds of this event go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. The remaining 15% of net funds goes to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, which provides ongoing support to breast cancer initiatives, so that strides made today can continue to propel us toward our goal.
Participating in this walk is a small thing that we can do to help raise money to find a cure!
Personal Connections
Everyone has been touched in some way by breast cancer. No family should lose a mother prematurely. Or a dear friend, sister, wife, daughter, co-worker. No one of us, just diagnosed, should have to look at the mirror in the morning and ask: Will I survive another day? Everyone deserves a lifetime: We feel it deep in our bones.
Angie L’s Connection – Angie had a 3nd lumps removed from her breast. All results turned out to be non-cancerous. Angie’s co-worker, Cheryl, was diagnosed with breast cancer in September ‘06. Cheryl went through Chemo for 4 months, had surgery in February ’07, and had radiation treatments for 2 months. Watching her go through that experience was something Angie will never forget. She had such an amazingly positive attitude and has been cancer free for over a year. Angie is not only walking for Cheryl, but also her husband’s grandmother who is a 21 year survivor, and in memory of her great uncle Jerry who passed away this past year from Breast Cancer.
Melissa’s Connection –This is Melissa’s 3rd year participating in the 3-Day walk. She is walking in memory of her great-grandmother who lost her battle to breast cancer at a young age and for the many women & men who are currently battling this disease. Melissa also has had several non-cancerous lumps removed from her breast in ’94 and again in ’08 and continues to focus her time on raising money for the breast cancer research.
Meagan's Connection – Four years ago, Meagan lost her aunt Lois to breast cancer at the young age of 44. When first diagnosed, she underwent successful chemo and radiation and entered remission; however, the disease came back and she ultimately lost the fight. Meagan participated in her first 3-day event last year in honor of her aunt and had such an amazing experience that she is doing it again this year!
Nick’s Connections – Nick’s aunt was diagnosed 3 years ago during a routine medical exam. Instead of running and hiding she stood tall and faced it head on and immediately started treatment to rid the disease as fast as she could. Her treatment was successful and has been cancer free for 3 years. Nick is also walking for his great-aunt who is a 15 year survivor and is still going strong and cancer free. He will continue to help in the fight, because life is short and precious. He has yet to experience something so destructive, and god willing will stay healthy so he can continue to help those who need support in finding a cure.
