BiographyJAH PRENTO A.K.A PRENTO YOUTHBorn to Jamaican parents, Mr Short ‘n’ Cute, Prento Youth started his DJ career in 1985 with various sounds including Viking, Papa Love, Shaolin Temple, Young Lovers Delight. He then graduated to UK Youthman Promotions (owned by Sugar and Earl Minott) where he bumped into Daddy Freddy.While under the guidance of Blacka Dread,and gappy crucial, Prento received the recognition he craved alongside Top Cat and Tenor Fly and of course Daddy Freddy.Prento Youth’s first recording was ‘The Twang’ on London Dreads Various Artist Album followed by ‘Bogle’ with Johnny Osbourne which became an international hit. Under the apprenticeship of Daddy Freddy ‘Talking Beat Box’ with Daddy Freddy and Pat Kelly on Freddy’s Music of Life album ‘Stress’ was released. Prento then went on to release his own 12” single ‘No Cocaine’. A couple more for Sugar Minott and Beats International followed, also a cut to the ‘Fattie Boom’ rhythm called ‘Loving can’t done.’ After a period of chilling out Prento Youth linked up with the Nine Lives Camp under the watchful eye of the producer/ DJ Top Cat alongside Joe Grine.Prento’s debut single for the Nine Lives Camp was a duet with Carlene Clarke ‘Miss short a Nut’n’ and then his solo ‘Pop Off’ being the flipside to Tad Hunters top 5 hit ‘Let Him Go.’ With both Prento and Tad enjoying long overdue recognition as solo acts, Nine Lives commissioned a version apiece on Top Cat’s ‘Smoke and Sensimilia’ rhythm. Full of vibes the pair began trading phrases and ‘God a Who’ was born reaching an amazing No2 in the reggae charts.Following the outstanding success of ‘God a Who’ ‘Sweet Senorita’ another combination by the duo was released and Prento’s solo ‘Oops! There she goes’ on the Sweetest Ting rhythm served to boost the confidence of this little but LARGE DJ jah prento aka prento youth.
