Thank you for poppin by!Before you read on we must say this space is not here to promote the political aspirations of ANY sector of South African Politics, just Bruin ou music, just the good music and our Beautiful Land that is S.A including it's eclecctic mix of beautiful people from all walks of "the Rainbow Country",especially raisin a big number for Da Durbz!!This space is totally dedicated to story's of young Bruin ou South African's mainly from the English and Zulu speaking part of South Africa, originally annexed by the British(although now superfreee),"The Kingdom of Kwa-Zulu Natal" and this is their storie's in song of going through the everyday humdrum and struggle of life in modern day South Africa that young Bruin ou's go through. The definition of "Bruin ou" in Afrikaans/Dutch loosely translates in slang as "Brown person" or the official/unofficial name "Coloured" which by no choice of our own was the label given to us by the then apartheid government of the time under the rule of the bastard that was "hendrick verwoed"(please note lower case usage).Because of our mixed race heritage we were labeled as Coloured(probably cos the U.S gov labeled our brother's and sister's in the states with the same name, this trend of copyin the U.S continues in S.A today)along with all the other Ethnic Majority who were labeled as Black(pure black),Indian(who were brought from the the colonies by the British to cut the sugar cane field's)and the old ruling elite, the minority Whites(whom we and most of S.A don have that much resentment for anymore as the shoe is now on the other foot now, thank God and we are trying our best to get along even though our history is not a good one,but some ou's are just stubborn!!)The then government felt it necesary to" label" all it's subject's instead of calling us by the same name,South African!!It was all part of the cruel Apartheid way!!Which thank God again found its demise besides how could a country get away with that for so long,i dont know,it beg's belief,it must be said we are not hung up on Apartheid as well,it's fucking over and we are all focusing on the future for those that think the former!!Although we as African's are very nostalgic and alway's find it hard to shake the past but in the same breathe, you need to embrace your past before you casn move on and accept the future!!The main bulk of Bruin ous are in Cape Town, being of Malaysiain,African,Hottentot,Sandman and European descent and are mainly Afrikaans/Dutch speaking.Altough there remains many large pocket's of Bruin ou's around this beautiful country that is our South Africa.Bruin ou's remain constantly aware of their proud mixed heritage by calving out their own identity and way of life yet not forgetting where we came from!!Enough with the history lesson already!!Leading us to the music on this page!!All the song's on this page are produced by the astoundingly talented Jeremy Clarke from Sydenham,Durban,Kwa-Zulu Natal better known as,"J7"."Bruin ou in my way's" is by TRO who have enjoyed top ten chart success in S.A,produced and written by "J7" and also feature's the man himself."Ecstacy" and "My love is Real"is not only produced but also written and performed by J7 himself along with the help of a few of the local cat's who have ambitions of breaking through this fucked up business that is show ."Lighties from da Wenties" and "Stekies Stekies Stekies" is by a group called "Nomad" and yip they from the means streets of Da Weh Weh'sBefore you enjoy our music please enjoy our Bruin ou take on life which is no different to anybody else who is alive ad in a constant struggle!!It's not easy being a Bruin ou in S.A!!!!!!Before we go,why the Bob backdrop, well if you lived in a ghetto of S.A as many of us did and saw a Bob video, back in the day,you would understand, the footage looked like it was shot in our back garden and street, besides Durban with its tropical weather and superb beache's is very much like the Carribean. In the summer the city is over run with folk from all over South Africa as its the Countries playground. The amount's of drowning's and shark bites goes up at an alarming rate during the Summer as most tourist's are not used to the beach being landlocked where they come from.Durban is a true paradise, surfer's from all over the world flock here for our marvelous swell's!!Once a year the "Gunston 500"an international surfing competition is held here.Surfing was a sport mainly done by young white boy's but now all the colour's of South Africa are taking to the wave's.Once a year we also have a massive Hindu festival on the beachfront called "The Festival of Chariot's"whereby Durbans Hindu population pull the chariot's while entranced with hook's through their their bodie's.This is not a Hindu only festival and all of Durban's resident's are welcome.Free food and drink's are available to all in attendance.Durban's population is made up of Majority Black South African's predominently from the Zulu tribe then coming in at second are the Indian's followed by the Bruin ou's,then the "Wit ou's"or better known as the White people. The main Coloured areas are Sydenham,Wentworth or Da Wenties(Alicia key's visited us here herself,no concert though),Newland's East or Da East,Greenwood Park,Marian Ridge or da Ridge. But since the fall of apartheid and one of it's cruel policies "The Group area's Act"People of all colour's can live anywhere they want, that's if they can afford to buy a 10 bedroom house on the beach!!I Know we cant afford it and find it hard to leave the hood!!It's where we get our inspiration to write song's as life is much more fun in the hood although sometimes frought with danger with gangland stabbing's and shooting's or stupid disputes that see people shot for shit and its always the same, brother's killing brother's apart from that if you moving with the right people you'll be ok!!We are sure Uncle Bob would have loved one of our local delight's "Durban Poison"next time you in Durbz try it,don't let the "Fuzz" catch ya though ;-)!!We all connected in more ways than one!!!!We love you Bob!!and yeah like all round this fucked up planet,we miss you!!!In closing we as Bruin ou's cos of the way we were and remain classified do not see ourselves no different to anybody on this earth and because of our mixed heritage do not think we are superior than anybody.Ever since the fall of aparthied we as South African peeps have been grappling with many social problem's which were there before the dawn of the new era in the ghetto's and also the arising of new one's,some like gangsterism, rape, murder, drug abuse(nowaday's crack, tik),stabbings, shootings, car jacking's are a big problem but not as big as HIV which has taken a strong hold in land and we as Citizens need/are to be aware of what a challenge it is for us to be responsible adult's and make the right choice to prevent the spread of this crazy disease which in time we all can beat it!!Saying this we still go on with our live's as normal like anybody else would in this messed up world and it's not all doom and gloom because we are confident things can only get better in the meantime we will continue to write in song the story of life in the New South Africa.Peace,Love and Happiness to all who have took time to read this friggin lengthy piece which i cant beleive i had it in me to write, normally its just song's,till the next episode....
