Howdy stranger. I'm Matt. On April 30th, 2008 I moved to New York. You may be wondering how a simple boy from Casper, Wyoming could ever wind up in such a complicated crazy place. It's quite a story but I'll tell you if you care to know.
While you might think this story begins on a pristine prarie somewhere near the Tetons or the North Platte River, it actually begins somewhere with much more greenery. Someplace, no respectable New Yorker would ever want to admit they came from... New Jersey. The year was 1982. It seemed like an ideal time for Gary and Lauren Falber to concieve a child. Though the winter was cold and several Soviet children had to walk 18 miles to school in the snow...
...eventually summer came. The budding of the flowers and the smell of pollen in the air seemed almost prophetic. After nine months of suspense, Matthew James Falber was born on May 30, 1983 in Longbranch, NJ. It was to be one of the most significant days in history. The world just didn't know it yet.
That's me!
For the first ten years of my life, we lived in New Jersey.
When I was four my brother was born.
We had to wrestle with that guy for him (does he look familiar? nah).
I loved New Jersey but despite their heavy gun control laws I was getting involved with the wrong crowd... maybe it was those boys that were in West Side Story.
So my parents decided to take my brother and I to Casper, Wyoming.
I continued to be involved with music and theatre and after high school wound up going to Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming to study music. While I was there I became an RA. We didn't have to pay for room and board so we shopped like money was going out of style -- all the finest stores too, Target, Walmart, Pamida (uh huh).
I also was elected Student Body President
I decided that if I wanted to act and sing, Wyoming was the wrong place to be, so I packed up my bags and rode my horse down to Las Vegas.
I performed in a bunch of venues. But something in Vegas didn't seem right. I looked at several cities and decided that I would move to one of them in December of 2006. But when I make up my mind about something there's usually no stopping me. By September 11, 2006 I was in Los Angeles were new opportunities to act, sing... and write, awaited me.
I got involved in lots of comedy, wrote for two magazines, sang in a choir, was in a major movie, started my own online magazine, acted in a play that landed me on the cover of Variety, lounged around looking great in my bathing suit and volunteered lots of time to ensure that gay and lesbian people have the freedom to marry.
Whew! I was living the life and it would never end! Until... one morning I woke up and realized I wanted to do musical theatre. I always loved it so, so much. I knew I'd have to leave my rockstar lifestyle behind and get used to riding on a subway...
