About Me

Hailing from the area just North of Paris called Nogent Sur Oise but based in Los Angeles, NexMoon is now set to shine his unique light onto the Hip Hop scene. After hearing artists on Radio Nova, Generation, Sky Rock, mixtapes, and seeing his first live Rap concert in 1990 (Public Enemy), he realized that he had a true passion for music and culture and a new journey began. Though dabbling in rapping since 1989, he focused and became serious in 1994 and hasn’t looked back. Originally working under the name “Moon Aim” and co-founding the group Un Instant, he began working on underground projects with DJ Romu, DJ Moussai (who NexMoon credits with possibly having the first SP1200 drum machine in France), and DJ Saafir from Paris. After realizing that he and his partner had different goals, he changed his name and decided to go solo in 1996.With a list of influences that includes D-Nasty, KRS One, Kool G. Rap, Sade, Jimi Hendrix, Ella Fitzgerald, NTM, I Am, Cypress Hill, NWA, MC Solar, IZB Promotions, Bob Marley and A Tribe Called Quest, it’s no wonder that NexMoon’s style is so dynamic. This flavor caught the ear of a number of independent record labels in France but he decided that he wanted to stretch out and absorb more of the world before he locked himself into a deal. On a trip to Amsterdam in 1998, he happened to meet Rakaa from Dilated Peoples who was visiting Fatbeat’s record store. After a few freestyle rounds in two different languages, the bridge of mutual respect and friendship was built. In 2000 Nexmoon decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue his musical aspirations and, once in L.A., he connected with the Jurassic 5 family and reconnected with the Dilated Peoples/ETS family. After listening to a few new songs and another freestyle session to make sure that Amsterdam connection wasn’t overly influenced by the “coffee shops”, Rakaa decided to leave hit the studio with NexMoon as well as help him navigate through the music business. After dealing with the harsh realities of being from a different country, speaking a different language as almost everyone around him, and getting a crash course in “real life” by moving directly from France to South Central Los Angeles, NexMoon has shown that he is ready, willing and able to make his mark. A true Hip Hopper at heart, he has had no problem collaborating in everything from freestyle ciphers, to soul projects, to Afro-Rhythm/World Beat projects, to even writing and recording in Spanish. He has broken through all social, economic, language and personal barriers that he has come up against, and he is finally ready to take the world by storm.NexMoon is now in Dilated Peoples’ studio (Soundproof East) finishing his first official Mixtape/CD project called “The Stranger Vol.1”. It features Rakaa on guest vocals, production by Aaron Harris and others, and features music from some of the dopest artists in Hip Hop (in both French and English). The song “La Victoire” has already started to generate buzz online and in mixtape circles. He is also very busy working on his debut full length LP entitled “Future Shock”. The “Future Shock” LP will push boundaries and blur lines in order to open up people’s ears and minds while staying true to Hip Hop Culture. It will feature Rakaa as well as other special guests on vocals, and will feature production from Aaron Harris, DJ Babu (Dilated Peoples/The World Famous Beat Junkies) Jah Zilla (Detroit), and others. Stay tuned for updates and announcements regarding both “The Stranger Vol.1” and “Future Shock”.Now you know!
