About Me

Danyell is a youthful, irie spirit who reads as much as she listens, plays as hard as she works, laughs as much as she talks and hopes as much as she loves. Her peers describe her as mature, naive, foolhardy, smart, thrifty, intelligent, thorough, analytical, intellectual, hard-line, intuitive, sincere, feminine, graceful, homely, stubborn, conscious, reserved, introverted, extroverted, music-obsessed, scrabble-maniac, silly and crazy. The Lioness accepts all of these.
Ruling under the sign of Leo, she is culturally aware and delights in the arts and nature, feeling most comfortable within either of these spheres. She credits her mother, Carol, for nurturing and encouraging her love for the arts by allowing her an experiential childhood of competitive swimming, horseback riding, dance classes, piano and violin lessons, pantomimes, numerous Reggae and jazz concerts and most of all BOOKS! She is also a very big fan of the Carol's Daughter product line, being a Carol’s Daughter herself.
Opting out of pursuing a law degree, Danyell pursued studies in dance, African history, philosophy, anthropology and cultural studies at the University of the West Indies (Mona) and the Edna Manley School of the Visual and Performing Arts. She has taught dance and music appreciation and performed as a member of Ashe (1994 - 2001), Jamaica Orchestra for Youth (1997 – 2000), Kingston Drummers (2001 – 2003), L’Acadco (2002 - 2005) and Akwaba (2001 - 2007), as well as independently. She is even featured in Sizzla’s Thank You Mama video in the noteworthy role of the pregnant woman carrying a basket of goods on her head, who convincingly falls to the ground from her severe throes of pre-natal contractions.
A sucker for quality entertainment, she soon ventured in to the production field of entertainment events, becoming intricately and critically involved in the planning, administration and execution of a number of events such as the Improv Series at Weekenz, Sting 2004, Welcome To Jamrock 2005, CVM TV Startime Series and Reggae Sunsplash 2006. To this end, she is currently pursuing studies in Entertainment and Events Management, the only program of its kind to be found in Jamaica or the Caribbean.
Her byline, C.Danielle McNish, gained recognition in her role as entertainment journalist and budding musicologist with the Jamaica Observer, Reggae Review.com and Reggae News UK. So much so, that she is currently spearheading the Reggae Head Inc project – a website prescribed to be an encyclopaedic database of the Reggae and Dancehall genres. She is also production coordinator for Heroes' Reggae Splash 2007 .
She loves to teach, learn, play, discover, write, swim, eat, party and talk, though she has her quiet moments. Among her complex bundle of interests, she counts food, languages (Spanish, French and Ayiti Creole), Afrikan and Caribbean cultures and peoples, worldwide web, eco-tourism, yoga, knitting and not combing her hair.
She aspires to surf, learn to play bass guitar and upright bass, have some children and home school them, hike up to Blue Mountain Peak again and achieve the yoga posture Ganda Bherundasana . She currently lives with her fiance, Charles, their five dogs Amadou, Gin, Simba, Whiskey and Remy, their love birds, Bunny and Carrie and their sometimes too-friendly-for-comfort croaking lizards. She is also enjoying her self-proclaimed status as a poet and plans to perform publicly when she builds up the courage.

Redefining 'helper' in the Jamaican context.
