Baltimore for the Draught

About Me

Hey everyone, Due to lack of funds the goblet games are on hold. They will still happen, I promise; just at a latter date. We have gotten overwhelmingly positive responses about the games and everyone wants in. The problem seems to be no one wants to help pay. The Draught can work around this, it just requires more time. So for the time being the games are postponed till spring. This will give us adequate time for fundraising so that the first inaugural Goblet Games gets the proper send off. We still need a ton of help and ideas for effective fundraisers, so if you have ideas or know people particularly well versed in this area please let me know. In the mean time, the board meetings are on hold for this week. A good portion of us, (myself included) have kickball on Thursday nights. This will require us to hold the board meetings on another night. Someone suggested Monday, but please email me and let me know what day of the week is most promising for everyone. See everyone soon, and remember to recruit some volunteers. Keep on rockin’ in the free world- tomwww.baltimoredraught.orgThings we need: PR Reps--Donation Coordinators--Permit Wranglers--Event Organizers--Health Care Volunteers--Budget Posse--Misc. Thank You !Baltimore for the Draught is a nonprofit organization geared toward individual and community awareness/evolvement in environmental/social issues concerning and effecting Baltimore area’s citizens. Baltimore for the Draught creates awareness/evolvement through social events and leisurely activities. Such an event will be our first annual “Goblet Games”, a field event that will serve as a fundraiser for a reusable grocery bag system at local grocery stores. The bags will be given out free of charge to Baltimore residents, and we hope to distribute somewhere between 4,000 to 10,000 bags. What are the "Goblet Games"? The Goblet Games is a huge field event. There will be music, beer, games, prizes for everyone, gifts, and at the heart of it all, competition (Think Fells Point Festival with Trophies.) By doing what Baltimore does best, (no, not killing) drinking beer, money will be raised for the purchase of a few thousand reusable grocery bags. Baltimore for the Draught will distribute the bags, free of cost to thousands of residents across Baltimore, thus helping to save the environment while giving you a fun little beach bag. Hooray! Your attendance of the Goblet Games contributes to the cause, and I may have beer I want to share with you. So join us. Check out our blog for a tentative schedule. This week in Baltimore For the Draught: Baltimore for the Draught now has an official web site, baltimoredraught.org The site is now up and running. Please go visit the site, leave me an e-mail while you are there. We need as many e-mail address as possible. Also every tuesday is a meeting of the Baltimore chapter of drinking liberally. My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Goals: First Goal is to start small and get out the good word!-STOP DRINKING BOTTLED BEER! We want you to go out to bars and have a great time. We want you to consume lots of beer. But only ask for draught beer, and bring your own mug. This will obviously cut back on waste produced at bars. Why is drinking draught the most important goal? Currently Baltimore City has no policy has glass recycling retrieval. Baltimore also has one of the highest concentrations of bars and liquor stores in the nation. The amount of heavy drinking in Baltimore thus produces an excessive amount of waste that could be either avoided or reused. Cut back on waste by bringing your own mug, refusing plastic cups, and refusing bottle beers. But do not stop going to bars! We don’t want to punish or hurt local businesses, this is not their fault. We actually want and need businesses on our side. Drinking draught beer not only is better for the environment, but it is more profitable for bars to serve draught beer. Right off the bat everyone wins.-SPREAD THE WORD! We need people to know about the movement; obviously more people involved means less waste will be created. So when you buy a draught beer, tell the bartender why you are buying draught. While you are at it, tell people at the bar why you are purchasing draught instead of a bottle. If you see people drinking draught beer, congratulate them on making a difference. Be happy and social and spread the word as to why Baltimore supports the draught.-HOW DOES THIS HELP? This is merely phase one of the project, and we can’t fail, literally. Drinking draught accomplishes LESS TRASH. Even if the rest of the campaign fails, at least for some period of time Baltimore will produce less waste. Furthermore, anybody can participate. The goal may be accomplished by individuals or groups; you do not have to be organized and you can do it whenever it is convenient. We want everyone to remember that what you do matters. Every little bit makes a difference. Help us change the world.
