Bigbigtrain produce modern progressive rock. While the influences of seventies Prog. are clearly visible (the Gathering Speed album had a strong retro. feel) the band have their own sound - characterised by excellent musicianship and a conviction to produce truly modern progressive rock.
It's not so much a person as their involvement in an event. From an early age I was inspired by the great progressive rock bands of the seventies - and the wonderful gatefold artwork. I was always most impressed by the guitarists; Steve Hackett, Robert Fripp, Steve Howe, Alan Holdsworth, Dave Gillmore and Ant Phillips. I'd have loved to have been there at the recording of the classic albums by these artists and their bands, or at the first gig!
Greg Spawton, guitarist from Bigbigtrain is of the same quality, playing with colour and vision. With Greg the song is more important than the solo, except perhaps on Broken English from the album Bard. Maybe the band wouldn't agree?
I'd have loved to have been present at the recording of BBT's English Boy Wonders. This must be the most criminally underrated album (even by the band). My favourite BBT album? Perhaps not, I love them all differently, but the lyrics in this release are very special, and the mix of guitar and acoustic piano is brilliant. I'm glad I got to see parts of it played live.Now there's a thing, to see BBT live ( their mum doesn't let them out much). We live in hope.
