Since of the original formation only Alain Eskinasi and Mischa Kool remained , Electro Côco decided to continue as a quartet in 2009 under a new name: Axé Côco. The new singer is Geórgia Dias from Sao Paulo ,who lives in Amsterdam nowadays.A new sound emerged,..... It's the Electrocôco sound, but much more dance floor oriented.... The Brazilian influence is still the main thing, but house, drum n' bass,fôrro, broken beats and reggae influences found their way into the mix. Eskinasi and Dias spent the last year finishing a brand new album,of wich you can hear tracks here above...to be out soon... On stage in a small series of try-outs in the spring of 2008 Axé Côco soon proved to be a very dynamic live act, lead by Eskinasi on laptop ,keys and guitar, combining his wild electronic beats with the energy of Bulgarian drummer Vasil Vutev, grounded by the sublime acoustic bass of Mischa Kool . Axé Côco will be back on stage starting in Amsterdam, from off september 2009.
Côco is the name of a traditional Brazilian music style where a singer or rapper is accompanied by the rhythm of a pandeiro. The idea to combine this north brazilian street style with electronic dance grooves came from the initiator of Electro Côco , Brazilian vocalist Viviani Godoy. Together with English DJ Graham B and Dutch producer and multi-instrumentalist Alain Eskinasi the idea was translated to a contemporary format which can be heared on their first cd “Côco do Mundoâ€. Not only did the get the dutch Edison award for this but also 5 tracks from this album found their way to compilations like Brazilian Groove(Putumayo),Bambuddha Grove,Latinesque,Aphrodissimo 2,Brazil Remixed 2,Brazilounge 3,Hotel d'Amour and Supperclub 9 .
Côco do Mundo in the newspapers:
“Superior record, meant for all dance floors and all seasons! (OOR) – Tailormade for the dance floor, but behind this club image beats a real organic heart (Het Parool) – This band makes international music of an international level (JAZZ).Since 2004,operating under the name Eectro Côco they played most of the well known festivals and venues in Holland and Belgium like Amsterdam Roots, Festival Mundial, North Sea Jazz Festival, Paradiso,Supernatural,Pole Pole, Antilliaanse Feesten Sail2005 and Lowlands. But also abroad their brasilecto sound proved to be hot,..The fact that they received interest from such a wide spectrum of events, including world music, jazz & pop festivals as well as dance clubs is a testament to the broad appeal of this band. In the second setting, with singer Jeannine Larose and Roel Callister on drums they played on festivals in Spain,Germany,France,Italy, and even as far south as Ile de la Reunion in Africa. The band got noticed by the jury of the Essent Awards, a Dutch award for the most promising bands, who choose Electro Côco as one of the winners for 2004,wich included a price,a concert on Lowlands and a special on MTV. The same year they also won the prestigious Edison Award in the World Music category. (The Edison award is the Dutch version of the American Grammy or the German Echo award.)
Georgia Dias also formed another project,:"BOCA" with drummer Thomas Gerretsen and Cajan Witmer on piano, inviting Kool and Eskinasi to play in the band as well. This resulted in the brazilian music theatershow 'O Amor Natural',wich is now in the last stages of cd production and going through their try-out performances. find us on :
