About Me

It's still hard to believe I live in LA but I love it here. I never want to be cold again!...unless it involves drinking an Icee and in that case I will make an exception. So what brought me here, you ask? Ok, you didn't ask, but I'll tell you anyway because it's 1:00 in the morning and I'm bored. Woo hoo! Well, once upon a time I went to a small women's college where I got the opportunity to speak at our graduation. The guest commencement speaker that year was an actress from CSI: Miami. We hit it off so she told me to call her if I ever needed anything. Long story short, she ended up calling me a month later, and somewhere along the line I was asked to be her personal assistant. I already had plans to live in Spain for a year so I put the job on hold. Guess I wasn't in a hurry to be someone's be-atch! That summer I worked like eight different jobs to earn enough money to go abroad. I started in June with $50 and ended in mid August with $7,000. And I didn't even have to take my clothes off! Whew! So off I went to Sevilla, Spain! I arrived with too much luggage and not enough Spanish. Go figure. But things eventually came together. I ended up teaching English, studying Spanish, and backpacking through 13 countries. Did I mention that I briefly lived with an old bald lady? When I returned home, I drove cross-country to LA. I even got to see the world's largest frying pan. Don't be jealous! I worked as an assistant for about 16 months, but luckily I had been writing part-time for the LA Daily News, which led to a full-time job for the syndicated newspaper column Beck/Smith. I've been doing it for over three years now and I love it. Every week I'm going to some event or movie premiere, interviewing an actor I've admired since I was little, or talking with some a-hole prick who thinks he's too cool for school -- it's pretty awesome. On the side, I tutor kids in creative writing and reading comprehension, and help old people across the street. I know what you're thinking, "Wow, she sounds like a saint," and, well, you'd be right. However, that doesn't mean I don't cuss...and litter. Just kidding! About the littering part, that is. I also perform sketch comedy and improv with my super talented group Gas Money while taking classes at the Groundlings. Other than that, you can usually find me hanging out with some of my buddies or dancing at the country bar. I've met so many amazing people out here that I can't imagine living anywhere else. Now if I could just get one of them to buy me a damn Icee!

My Interests

Streaking! Well, only on Wednesdays. All the other days I enjoy performing improv, tennis, ultimate frisbee, softball, soccer, playing the guitar, African drumming, singing in the shower, making scrapbooks (yes, I can be a dork), dancing (doing the robot in particular), two-stepping, hanging out with friends, and eating chicken wings and drinking Shirley Temples at Hooters!

I'd like to meet:

Your mama! And Richard Simmons, but not at the same time.

Music:

As you can see, I pretty much like everything. Por ejemplo: Jason Mraz, Journey, The Doobie Brothers, 3 Doors Down, Sarah McLachlan, The Dixie Chicks, Rascal Flatts, Melissa Ferrick, The Killers, Keith Urban, Kelly Clarkson, David Bisbal, Juanes, Celia Cruz, Brandie Carlile, Guster, Bon Jovi, Indigo Girls, Black Eyed Peas, Sam Cooke, Ella Fitzgerald, disco, the Temptations, the Fantastic Shakers, and Chairmen of the Board (them Southern folk know who I'm talking about).

Movies:

Finding Neverland, The Cider House Rules, Moulin Rouge, Rudy, Billy Madison, Big Fish, Best in Show, Zoolander, Bend It Like Beckham, A League of Their Own, Fried Green Tomatoes, Beaches, Anchorman, Steel Magnolias, and The Sound of Music (yes, and I'm not afraid to admit that I even took the real life Sound of Music tour in Austria)

Television:

So You Think You Can Dance, Grey's Anatomy, Weeds, Brothers & Sisters, Sleeper Cell, The Sopranos, Will & Grace, The Golden Girls (I teared up the first time I interviewed Betty White. Does that make me weird? Ok, don't answer that). And what can I say, I'm still a sucker for the Real World. Who doesn't want to see a bunch of 20 year olds getting in fights and having lots of drunken sex? Oh, wait.

Books:

Charms for the Easy Life, The Lovely Bones, Night, The Red Tent, The Devil Wears Prada, Where the Red Fern Grows

Heroes:

A little nerdiness goes a long way

Although I pride myself on being hilarious (and clearly modest), sometimes my brain wants me to think like a nerd.  You can only imagine the internal conversation going on in my head.  "Do I...

Getting to know me (sort of) Part 2

I hate strawberries.  Biting down on one of its tiny, little hard seeds makes me want to throw up in my mouth.  I hate even more that people "can't believe I hate strawberries."  I can'...

Donnie Wahlberg stood me up!

Yes, it's sad, but true. I've been scheduled to interview him on the phone on two different occasions and he just stood me up again! He's probably busy re-living the good ole days in his head. Curse y...

Wore dirty clothes to the MTV Movie Awards

That's right! I stuck it to the Hollywood "man" yesterday when I attended the MTV Movie Awards wearing the clothes that I had just partied in the night before. I was running so late to the show that I...

Thinking can get you in trouble.

I never imagined I'd take the time to reveal what I'm feeling on the internet, but it's what I'm moved to do at the moment, and I've never been one to fight that.  It must be part of my cathartic...
