At the moment I'd like to meet Cat Power and take hold of her career! I went to see her in Camden this year and it was very upsetting. Overpowered by the band, and lost in the mix, all the subtlety and vulnerabity that we love her for was gone. Her last album, The Greatest, was also awash in an unnecessary level of reverb. It's like she's so insecure and lacking in confidence that she's happy to hide behind someone else's idea of how she should sound. I first saw her on Jools Holland's Later, where her vocals, unadorned, just flipped my heart. I'm sure that that one appearance and the excellent songs on The Greatest put her in what looked like pole position to take off this year. But after Camden, if someone doesn't get a grip, I fear she could disappear.
