Welcome! We hope you enjoy our music.

About Me

Kestrel members surprised themselves one day back in 1997 when they got together to play at a local country fair. They outdid themselves at the pie-eating contest and had a great time jamming and hearing other wonderful music... and that pie!!! In short, they liked their new found friendship and forged a unique sound combining traditional American and Celtic roots music with African and Asian rhythms.

Since then they have been playing their wildly beautiful music for public and private events throughout New England, and in 2005 released "Field Recordings", a collection of favorite performances. Field Recordings captures the energy of the trio at their best - live. Playing as Kestrel for 10 years, Andy, Russ and Cynthia have created a musical language that weaves together their particular gifts and draws on their collective musicianship of over 50 years. They are acknowledged locally for their interpretations of traditional music and for their compelling compositions.
