I've been playing guitar ever since I can remember.... Well almost. These days I'm focused on writing my own songs. For live gigs I mix in some old standard blues and rock songs, so I can play a nights worth of music. The group is called ROBERT ANDY JUSTUS and THE HURRICANES. We will be playing at your local haunt real soon. In September, CBC RadioOne played my song "Looking For Empties" a few times. On the afternoon "Shift" program and on the Morning show. "Looking for Empties" is all about the Moosehead beer heist. Mohawk Radio is going to spin my tunes on a new program called "Live/Loud and Local" in October and Dan Behrman at CBC Radio in Montreal will play some tunes on his blues program. Write them an email and ask them to play some of my songsTrue story; I burned a CD of my original songs so that I could listen to it in the car. That’s the best place to see how it really sounds. Is the mix good? How does this sound and that? So, I’m driving up the freeway headed home one Friday night and ………I’m stuck in traffic. It’s Spring and I’ve got the windows down and I’m listening to “The Heart From Me†and this guy in the car next to me says, “C’est quoi ca?†and I smiled and said, “C’est moi!†And he says, “C’est bien. Can I have a copy?†So, I got his number and burned him a CD of my songs and mailed it to him………and I got to thinking … maybe other people would want to hear my music……Oh geeze, forgot to mention the guy in the other car was actually someone I know and I just went to his house with a copy of my CD
I made this CD with a bunch of my songs. I hope you enjoy them. I posted a few here on Myspace. I recorded all these songs in my studio and I used the same process for everything; just a few tracks and I recorded all the tracks in a continuous take. This way you get a fresh and live sound, which I think is missing in a lot of music today.
And I’m off ….singing and playing music and writing my own songs. For me a cacophony of music has gone off in my head. I hear melodies. I write ideas down on little pieces of paper. Now it all comes together. Sometimes faster than other times, but about 90% of my waken day is spent thinking either about lyrics, a guitar riff, a sound, a bass line, a melody, some kind of layered music, etc. It makes it hard to concentrate on anything else but it’s just the way it is. It’s another thing I have to do. You start with a basic idea and you see were it goes. Sometimes you really capture it all right there and you think maybe other people will want to hear it too. I’m trying to write songs that people will hear and remember and structure helps with that. I also like to tell stories in my songs that way you get more than just a melody and a guitar hook.
Also you might catch me around Montreal playing in a Dance Band called Moonlights - Myspace/moonlightsband. We do everything; Light Jazz'n Rock, Rock'n Roll, Disco. You can book us for your Private Parties or come and see us playing in a bar. .............So, that’s a dittie about me.
