Having aspirations of his name above the driver's window of a NEXTEL Cup series stock car, Johnny knows that each series is a stepping stone towards the ultimate goal at hand.His racing career got underway back in 2001, running in the World Karting Association's JR Sportsman Champ division. After finishing 4th in the VA WKA State Pavement Series Championship and locking in 11th place in the WKA National points standings, Johnny proceeded to the next level of Karting competition.2002 marked his first year in the JR Champ division and the year of his first win. Several top-3 finishes followed soon after and he ended the year fifth in points in both of the JR Champ divisions. 2002 also marked a drastic shift in Johnny's competitive edge. The seat time was starting to show, as solid finishes and wins were added to his young, yet expansive resume.Two years later, Petrozelle began his assault on national competition with a six race winning streak in the NC State Series. Later that year, he was named the NC State Double Crown Champion. The successes of 2004 allowed him the honor of an invitation to join the NC State Driver's Committee.In 2005, Petrozelle,once again, was ready to take his career to the next level. Striving for more challenging competition, he completed the 3 day racing course at Skip Barber Racing in Fontana, CA, as well as an advanced course in Daytona. The valuable learning experiences better prepared Petrozelle for his major jump from karts to Allison Legacy Series competition. Johnny started his first Allison Series race for Trevor Boys at the Autumn 200 in Florence, SC. Of the field of 31cars, Petrozelle finished his first ever start, just shy of the top-10, in 12th place.2006 would also mark, yet another strong year of competition and preparation. Johnny was invited to compete in the 2006 Skip Barber Karter's Shootout, an invitation only event for the 60 best karters around the world. Petrozelle was personally nominated by WKA President Randy Kruger as the first ever Oval Kart racing nominee. Johnny also returned to Allison Legacy competition before leaving the states to compete in Canada for the summer. Racing in the IMCA modifieds, he became the youngest driver to ever finish on the podium in a modified pavement event. Upon the 2006 summer’s end, Johnny returned to NC and Allison Legacy Touring Series competition with a 2nd place finish in his first race back in the No. 50. Johnny continued to show similar strong runs for the remainder of the Allison Legacy Series season.Next year, as those prior, shall mark another year of growth.
