About Me
"Three Kids Was Plenty..."
..Singing drummer Vince Santoro has had a full, rich career playing and recording along side such varied and notable artists as: Rodney Crowell, Rosanne Cash, The Highwaymen, Shania Twain, Lari White, Carlene Carter, Edgar Winter, Roy Buchanan, Kathi Macdonald, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Emmy Lou Harris, Jon Randall, Jim Lauderdale, Felix Cavaliere, and many others. In 2000, he collaborated with keyboardist/producer Billy Livsey on his own CD, 'Little Vinnie', and continues his songwriting and musical endeavors. Recently, however, feeling artistically restless and unsatisfied with his status quo, Vince opened a new chapter in his creative life by compiling a series of short, semi-autobiographical, prosaic stories. By combining 'spoken word' recitation of these pieces with drum and percussion accompaniment, he has given birth to a textured and powerful 'new' form of expression. When Vinnie Vidivici comes to your town, in his shiny new ride, he'll offer you a lift saying, "Get in... I'll drive".
Vince invites listeners to an intimate, amusing, sometimes unsettling, glimpse at the stories and people who have shaped his life and memory. Squirming live eels in the bathtub of his suburban home, ‘pet’ rabbits unceremoniously sacrificed for the weekly flavorful (and thrifty) spaghetti sauce, the giddy moments of his first solo bicycle launch : each recounting, reflecting his emergence from an uncommonly common first-generation Italian immigrant family.
This is spoken word with a twist. Events and emotions in Vince’s particular poetic landscape are punctuated with percussive sounds and touches that simmer and soar right along with his word impressions. Once comfortably ensconced in Vince's virtual living room, you just might feel your forearm sticking to the ever-present plastic sofa cover...you might catch a whiff of the spaghetti sauce, simmering patiently on the stove...or you might even hear the thud as the morning paper hits the screen door.
A one-man show,Vince is clearly at home with himself as he weaves voice and drums into a mesmerizing sonic tapestry.
