KOYLA (N.Serebryakov)

About Me

BiographyMy name is Nikolay Serebryakov. I was born in St. Petersburg in 1980 in the family of Elena Serebryakova, a famous contemporary artist http://www.gala-studio.com/lena. My father is a physicist. My grandmother played violin and served as accompanist in a symphonic orchestra. I studied in the Hermitage school of art from 1985 to 1992, and then in the College of Music, majoring in clarinet and piano, from 1987 to 1995. I then proceeded to Mussorgsky School of Music, where I studied saxophone from 1995 to 2000.In 1998 I won a laureate diploma (1st class) at Autumn Marathon Jazz Contest. In 1996 I joined SpitFire band, playing ska-jazz. We performed in Finland (Tavastia Club), in Sweden (Hulstfred Fest), and in other locations. In 1999 I released my first authored project, Sterotip in acid jazz style, in cooperation with London-based performer Abigail Bailey. In 2000 I was employed by Asymmetric Recording Studio in Tel-Aviv, helping to start up the business http://www.asymmetric.co.il. In cooperation with DJ Primat I helped set up the Right to Dance project, which released Weekend, the first recording of its kind in Russia. In 2004 we created Fun2Mass, a live performing acid-jazz-funk band http://www.acidjazz.ru/english/pages/detail.php?id=9. In 2005 the band released a track entitled “The Sound of Love and Dedication 3,” on a hard-soul compilation by DJ Roog. The band also released a track “Nobody’s Home” in “The Love Machine” project.
