Joe Herndon has been the Temptations' bass man since October, 2003. Born January 5, 1949 in Washington, DC he attended public schools in the Washington area.
Joe’s interest in music began at an early age when he joined the junior high school chorus after the teacher realized he was gifted with that bass voice. He sang all through high school with classmates who would one day sing with him in various groups in the city.
Joe’s first foray into singing was with the Epics, a local do-wop harmonizing group. From there he joined former high school friends who called themselves the Veltones. After his stint with that group he joined the Realistics where he remained for a number of years. He later joined a group of accapella singers who were members of the Metropolitan Police Department and they are called DC’s Finest. He stayed with that group until he was asked to join the legendary Pookie Hudson & The Spaniels.
Joe’s exposure to so many people eventually led to a short stint with Former Temptation member Damon Harris who had his own group. After a brief time with Damon, Glenn Leonard formed his own group and while they were appearing in Las Vegas, he was approached to join Otis Williams and as they say, “the rest is history.â€
Joe feels very blessed and happy to be a part of such a legendary group.
