ROY ROGERS

About Me

Some are born with the gift to sing, while others merely dream of grabbing hold of it. And as a teenager, Texas native Roy Rogers began sharing his gift with others. The pursuit of Rogers’ music career started with one man and one song; Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” After hearing that particular song, Rogers knew it was time to make his mark as a vocal entertainer.“I thought I couldn’t sing at first,” Rogers admitted. “I couldn’t relate to anything because my voice didn’t match anybody until I heard Al Green.”After holding first place in high school talent shows and wooing classmates with his newly discovered talent, Rogers began to embrace his vocal ability and energetic presence. Rogers remembers singing in his school’s bathroom during recess while his classmates would crowd around him enjoying the unique sound. “I would even skip class just to sing,” Rogers recalled.Through the years to follow, Rogers, a minister of 30 years, gained recognition and began to minister to God’s people with such groups as the Gospel Tones, Country Boys, and Soul Invaders, all based out of Texas. While thankful for the fellowship and ministry as a group member, Rogers realized he was unable to fully pursue his music career. From then he longed for another endeavor and God directed him to make a move.“I got a revelation from God, through the Holy Spirit He was telling me to feed His people,” Rogers testified. “I knew I had to go somewhere but I didn’t know where.” Being led to an unfamiliar place, Rogers followed God’s direction and moved to California, where he has been content for slightly over a year.Though Rogers released two fairly consecutive albums in Texas, more than 10 years ago, he anticipates a nationwide response from his forthcoming album, “Wait.” Rogers believes this CD will reflect a great change in his music and he hopes to encourage and reach all ages of listeners. “If my music can make someone happy by listening to it, then I’m pleased,” Rogers expressed. With a more confident approach to his music, Rogers believes he has found his true identity. While making every effort to shy away from the vocal style of Al Green, Rogers maintains his admiration for him and others like Johnny Taylor, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and Ron Isley.Manifesting a sincere heart, Rogers lives by Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.”“This is my lifestyle,” Rogers proclaimed. “I don’t know anything else because this is what I do best.” Rogers firmly believes if he continues to keep the faith and trust in God, all things are possible. layout powered by HOT FreeLayouts.com / MyHotComments
