. .Michael Grant Alexander: an all-American singing cowboy. His wide range of musical influences captured his mind and ear from a young age to be an admirer of well written music of all genres. Rock, pop, r&b, and of course country. This diverse background gives Michael an immense cross-over appeal. His songs can quickest be described as “classics.†After hear a song 3 times, you will crave it.
His smooth as velvet voice, immediately grabs the listener’s attention, puts smile on their faces and a sigh in their breaths. His sincerity and likeability joined with his riveting good looks and intense bedroom eyes, gives Michael the platform from which he delivers original country tunes, ranging from beautifully beguiling ballads to sassy full of fun songs, which are at all times laden with memorable hooks, and backed by a solid country-rock foundation.
Often finding himself with fans that love country music, and also fans that dont like country music.
Michael’s 6’2†frame, topped by his signature black cowboy hat, makes him stand out in any crowd, and his voice, reminiscent of Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, and Hank Williams Sr., along with original catchy songs, emblazons his place in his listeners’ memories.Born in the 70’s in Northern California, Michael began his career in music when he was 5 years old, pounding away on his brother’s guitar,
and learning to play his great great aunts upright player piano that went to the family when Michael was 2. . Being influenced by country bands that would come play at his parents 500+ crowd partys. A pig in the ground and several cages of beer, a pool, and a kick ass band.. what a way to grow up... He was already learning the guitar, and piano from age 5 but at around 14, the muse saw a different kind of drive.
As a teen, Michaels father was making and selling 6 holed trraditional exotic wooden flutes, with carvings of girls lying on their stomach..naked.. An amazing piece of work. Art at its finest
He was traveling with his father to different bluegrass festivals and got intrduced by a friend of his father ( Skip) to Mark O'connor and
Ricky Skaggs..
Both Mark O'connor and Ricky skaggs have their own flutes with the girls on them
Getting to meet Mark O'connor and Ricky Scaggs and people of the like, at bluegrass festivals really gave Michael the fuel to take his music to the highest level.
..
Michael was also an energetic and enterprising country boy, got involved in the FFA and raised pigs and cattle and later became the high school chapter president.
With the help of his mother Michael bought an Apaloosa horse
and began training her under the eye of an extemely talented horseman,, Stanley Semas.
By 16 he was competitively riding bulls in the rodeo, learning from Mr. Semas's son who rode PRCA for years. Aaron Semas.
After some time on the Appaloosa mare michael began going to practice ropings and Jack pot ropings in the area. That is where his voice for the first time sang out to an audience " friends in low places" The responce was, that boy needs to be singing on the radio. And although for years those people pushed him to do music profesionally.
he had to figure it out for himself... another damn stubborn Cowboy.
He spent three years traveling through Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico and Texas, working as a horse breaker and cattle man and farm hand on various ranches, while continuing to hone the craft of songwriting and performing in local clubs.
All aong the way hearing from many of people " that boy needs to be on the radio." Until finaly in Wyoming, snowed in with an 8 foot drift,
Michael saw the direction he was suppose to go,,,,,, " SOUTH"
Michael was off to Nashville at age 23.
Michael lived in Nashville for 4 years learning the biz and got to write with some great songwriters.. In figuring out the biz, Michael decided that the most important thing is style. And style is a tricky thing..
Hard to have style when everyone does and looks the same and is all going after the same thing...
Michael went back to Cali, worked on his writing and recording and performing. playing in the bay area of california, and in La , and in all kinds of little towns, Michael began to build his west coast fan base..
in 2003 Michael was introduced to MYSPACE.. what a tool!
Myspace is transforming music.
Moving to Albany Oregon with family in 07 Michael once again stretched his fan base and playing live in Portalnd often and in Vancouver and in Tangent and of course in Albany.
Some shows are with the whole band, and some are just acoustic solo.
Michael should be arriving in Nashville around November.
And will be playing in all kind of places in the mean time..
Keep an eye on the schedule on the site..
