We all knew it was coming to an end, starting with the last first day of high school. The last Homecoming. The last Pep-Rally. Then the last sports game. Last school picture day. The last Prom. And before we knew it, there was the last report card and finally, graduation.
Our High School career ended almost as quickly as it had begun. We spent our years here wishing it away. We were always looking for something more instead of approaching what we had.
Each year we anxiously awaited the upcoming one and all of the new privledges and opportunities. And now, our Senior year, all we wanted was to get out of here. We were ready for bigger and better things. It was time for college. Time to get out of the house. We wouldn't be under our parents' rules. It was time to be on our own.
With freedom finally at our fingertips, we began to look back. We reflected on the past four years and started thinking about the good times we had. It was then that some of us wished we hadn't taken this time for granted.
"I never really appreciated living in a small town," Jenna Macha said. "It's boring, but it's the only place I've ever called home. I'm going to miss my town."
Some wished they would have spent more time with friends instead of only focusing on their extracurricular interests.
"I wish I would have gone out on weekends and been with my friends," Courtney Wenzel said. "I was always at stock shows or too scared to really go out, and now it seems like I missed out on a lot of fun times."
With the realization of leaving sinking in, some seniors began to look back on some of the good times they had.
"I'm going to miss all the dances," Chad Miller said. "They were always fun and it's going to be different to live in a bigger town where I don't know everyone."
Some seniors felt they were too wrapped up in relationship dramas and didn't take advantage of the carefree life of a teenager.
"It seems like I was always in a relationship and didn't get to spend as much time with all my friends while I had the chance," Jessica Boysen said.
Still more wished they would have opened up and gotten to know everyone at their school.
"I used to e really shy," Chase Holik said. "I started having more fun during my junior year and not caring about what other people thought of me. I wish I would have been like that all through high school."
It's been said, "The biggest regrets in life are the chances you never take. You can't go back; it will never be the same. You can only move forward."
Our high school journey is over and it's time to take the next step in our lives. Despite the regrets we may have, we must continue to move on. We need to take the chances we are given. As our lives unfold, we need to take advantage of the new and exciting opportunities ahead of us. If we learn from our mistakes, we can live the rest of our lives without regrets. This taken from the Yoakum High School Bow Wow 2006, Vol. XLVX, Out of the Blue
