I am here for Friends

About Me

I spent many years (prior to motherhood..) designing costumes for professional and Equity theater in Southern California. I had the pleasure and pain of working for the likes of Disney, Opera Pacific at The Orange County Performing Arts Center, Shakespeare Orange County, Chapman University theater, dance and opera departments just to name a few. I also did countless(!) community theater projects and assorted friends' gigs but my favourite has always been the opera. In between designing I taught- everything from elementary school reading, science and English to university level theater arts. In between that I worked at Knott's Berry Farm (10+yrs) for their Halloween Haunt as a Ghost Town and Gauntlet street monster and worked in their park decorating and props departments. So from all that to Waxahachie, Texas- yeah, a big jump and the most amazing leap I've ever taken! I ran across a quote by Eudora Welty that sums up my fanatical, new convert enthusiasm for Waxahachie: "People give pain, are callous and insensitive, empty and cruel..but place heals the hurt, soothes the outrage, fills the terrible vacuum that these human beings make." I'm not sure that I share those grim opinions but I do know how vitally important 'place' is. The place where I live now is amazing- so beautiful and I live a truly charmed life as a stay-at-home mom for my little boy. The life I have now is so much more creative and creatively lived than it's ever been. I love having a home that can fill the void within and heal the hurt. I'm blessed to be able to spend my days completely absorbed in creating such a place for my loved ones and to have picked a place that naturally lends itself to such ideas. Blessed indeed!
What's he building in there?

As we pound and hammer away building Halloween props in April I'm sure my neighbors have asked themselves this many times.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

If you are creative, willing to wear costumes and/or vintage clothing for no good reason, are thoughtful, have an open heart, believe that you were born in the wrong time period or love Halloween with a passion that defies explanation- drop me a note and say hi. Of famous folk, I'd love to meet Louise Erdrich! Above and beyond that- if you come by and stop to look around my site then drop me a note just 'cause. I'm not a very good correspondent (some would say downright crummy..)but I do love to hear from friends and meet new ones. "Forbiden Images" This a collection snippets from films of the 1920's and 30's that were edited out by either a theater owner or projectionist- bits that someone deemed "inapropriate" for the viewing public that attended their theater. All of the clips used in this film came from a reel of 35mm nitrate, found in an old theater somewhere in Pennsylvania. This reel is now in the hands of the Library of Congress. How sad that they were all cut out but how wonderful that someone found them and we can see them today! I love this kind of thing- stuff that gives me an understanding "pre" and "post" code Hollywood from that era! This is by far and away theee most charming thing I've ever seen on youtube! Just fabulous!! It's worth checking these guys out! http://www.youtube.com/millbrookmusic or The Bashful Tenor Motion Picture Co. in my top friends list!!!
