Christine Spencer graduated from the High School of Music & Art, and won a scholarship to attend the Julliard School of Music, of which she is an alumus.
Christine Spencer’s professional career began at 18 years old when she was chosen to be the understudy to the leading lady in "Lost in the Stars" on Broadway. Jamacia starring Lena Horne and "Zulu and the Zayda" starring Menasha Skulnick, Ossie Davis and Lou Gossett Jr. followed, thus began a musical career on Broadway, which led her to star off Broadway in "Ballad for Bimshire". Her career then led to television, radio, film and numerous commercials.
Christine Spencer was the first person of color to be a regular singer on the Ed Sullivan show, which was followed by being a regular singer on the Bell Telephone Hour. She appeared on Harry Bellefonte, Dinah Shore, Marlo Thomas and Andy Williams television specials.
She became the host of her own children’s television program "Around the Corner on WCBS-TV.
Christine has been a background singer and a soloist on many recordings, and has worked with Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Valerie Simpson, Melba Moore, Nat King Cole, Bill Evans, Mahalia Jackson, Archie Shepp "On This Night", Donald Bryd "Cristo Redentor", Tony Orlando & Dawn, Dionne Warwick among others.
In the mid 80’s Christine was the lead background singer on "Let’s Do It" a hit single which still gets airplay on major R&B radio station’s.
Christine is a world traveler singing in various venues from Opera to Jazz in concert halls, theater, and supper clubs. As a singer aboard the Norwegian America Line, she has traveled from the North Cape to Tonga. She sings in six languages, and to quote Miss Spencer, "I'll take titles of three songs and that will tell you how I feel - 'Let My Song Fill Your Heart' for 'I Believe In Music' and through it, I hope to 'Make Someone Happy'.
After a long career in the entertainment industry, Christine Spencer is now in the Hotel industry as the Chief Concierge at a major NYC hotel, and has passed the singing torch onto her daughter Charisse.
