Martin Howells is a traditional blues musician living in Northern NSW. He captures the style of traditional bluesmen such as Mississippi John Hurt, whilst still retaining his own unique approach to the music.
Martin played extensively in the UK in the late 60’s and early 70’s before moving to Australia and retiring from the music scene. A few years ago he was persuaded to perform again and rekindled his passion for playing the music of the blues pioneers.
His greatest influences are the blues musicians of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s such as Mississippi John Hurt, Mance Lipscomb, Frank Stokes and Lightnin’ Hopkins. He plays Guitar, Dobro, Lap steel and Harmonica.
A Martin Howells performance showcases his interpretation of the music of these artists as well as some of his original songs.
