About Me

I was born on August 12th, in Houston,Texas under the name Gerald Lamar Calhoun, and have been interested and extremely active in music since a very early age. I began singing in the choir under the direction of my mother. It was then she realized my ability for music. My interest soon turned to musical instruments, where I learned the saxophone, electric bass, bassoon, double bass, piano and guitar to programming.Performances in music meant a lot of traveling at an early age. It was before my 18th birthday that I left my hometown of Houston to tour Europe, with the awarding winning high school "KSB" Kashmere Stage Band under the direction of Conrad O. Johnson. That of which remains for me a great honor and privilege.Deciding to continue my studies in music, I went to the University of North Texas State and received a Bachelor of Music degree. Also during this period I joined a group of extraordinary musicians that later became the legendary Dallas,Texas band "Phyrework" which recorded 1 album for Mercury Records. During this period I started writing for another successful R&B group "Confunkshun". Shortly after, toured for the Department of Defense for the troops stationed in Turkey and Greece. From that point on the performances have been many.Always looking for new challenges, I took acting classes for T.V, film and commercials in Dallas and later in Atlanta, Georgia. Which ultimately led me to perform in the musical theater production of "American Jukebox" under the direction of Edward Love, which lasted about 5 years. In the musical not only did I have to play bass, but sing and dance as well. It was an amazing experience as well as a turning point. During this time I was presented with a Platinum album for the debut of "Pebbles", for which I was a contributing songwriter in collaboration with Michael Cooper of Confunkshun. After that, I started working as a musician in Atlanta, Georgia for 2 years. Then I returned to Belgium as a vocalist touring internationally with "The Magic Platter's". During this time, I performed and collaborated with many production teams, and also in another musical in Antwerp, Belgium called "Soul Baby June" which was a Motown Revue. Here are some of people that I have shared the stage and or worked with, for me it has been an honor. The Temptations, Average White Band, Patti LaBelle, Mary Wells, Herbie Hancock, Kool and the Gang, Grover Washington Jr, The Ohio Players, Confunkshun, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lightin Hopkins, Gino Vannelli, Bloodstone and the Tramps, the Magic Platter's, Alcione, Ney Matogrosso, Marcio Montarroyos. Also with NY Gospel Experience, Everette Harp, Calvin Owens, vocals on Pierre Rapsat last 2 CD's and bassist for "Disco Night Fever" including George Mcrae, Patric Hernadez, Ottawan, Gibson Brothers and Boney M........Let's Dance n Groove!!
