For as long as anyone can remember, tracing back at least to the Soul Steppers of the 1970’s, the percussion section of Howard University’s Marching Band has been referred to as THUNDER MACHINE. Generations of Howard percussionists have served as members of TM, forming the heart of “Showtime†and its predecessors. The section was formalized as an organization: THUNDER-PHI-MACHINE in 1981, retroactively including all of the Machines that came before. The section was reorganized in 1992 and facilitated the current era of THUNDER MACHINE.This era is one whose primary goal is perfection as performing percussionists; to astound and amaze while entertaining. The secondary goal is to become as a family; honoring the long and storied history of THUNDER MACHINE and preserving that bond into the future. To the Brothers of THUNDER MACHINE, nothing else really matters. Two capable and innovative Machines lead the current section. Our captain is Corey "T.H.O.R." Hansford from Long Beach, California. Our Co-Captain is Renaldo "Olorun" Biddy from Largo, Maryland. They are supported by a section of veteran and younger members of TM, as well as a talented and promising group of aspirant Machines.
