About Me

Neil Dalton is a song writer who plays around the clubs in Derbyshire and Staffordshire. He is currently the MC and Host at the Real-Music Club. He writes regularly about folk and country music for Maverick magazine and The Living Tradition.
Rob Henry of The Real-Music Club says, "He believes a song should enrich as well as entertain - a catchy tune, an addictive melody, a cool riff, an irresistable lyric, a comic twist, a clever rhyme, a legitimate protest, an historical record, or a song that simply hits the listener in that vulnerable tender spot."
"Hope you like the songs here." Neil Dalton
Easy Street - The idea for this song came out of a conversation with the wonderful guitar player Duck Baker. If you ever find the place, by the way, let me know.
"They say it’s a place where the music is cruel,
But the Devil is always so kind,
It’s just round the corner - next door to Hell,
But Easy Street’s not easy to find."
When I Wake Up - Even I think there’s something strange about someone from Liverpool, who lives in the Midlands, writing songs that belong on some 1950’s, valve radio, country show.A Country Christmas - There’s a chorus, a father, a mother and child, a gift, hopes for the New Year and it ends with the word ‘Amen’ – what more does a country Christmas song need? This is a bit dysfunctional though, I suppose.Blues Come For Free - Have a listen to the slide playing from Jack Hudson on a vintage Gibson, it's just terrific. You could always have a look at the video clip to hear this song done solo!A Waltz Will Go .... - This is a bit of open tuning for a mournful song. Have a listen to what good friends Graham Breeze and Toby Wilson do with this song on their site – They call it Waltz BreezeandWilsonHe Promised To Dance - A traditional ballad style with a twist in the story.
“Love is a hard road to walk all the way,
There’s never a toll but you still have to pay,
And it’s more than fine words at the end of a day,
And not everyone dances each step of the way.”
(He Promised To Dance….)
