About Me

Dj Poroxx..s interview for *Heat* magazine:
1. Hi, should I call you Roman or Poroxx or...? / Call me Roman
2. How’s it hanging? This is my real name.
3. Where and when were you born, tell us a little about your childhood. / I was born in Tallinn in an ordinary family. Was a good and obedient boy. Was fond of sport. Liked girls. Like them now too?! Studied well.
4. How did you became affected with music and when did you start DJing? I was such a fool guy and listened kind a freaky music. It was like boom-boom-boom on my family’s heads and drove them crazy with that. And one day they send me out of my room and even of the flat and I started driving crazy the other Estonian folk!:))))))
5. Name some of the parties that you have played at. / Dj Parade (St.Petersburg), Ural Crash-2, Atmosphere, Trance Deliverance, Freedom Parade....
6. Name some of the DJs that you have played with. / Westbam, Elite Force, Transa, Above & Beyond, Layo & Bushwacka, Kasey Taylor, Plump Djs, Aphrodite, General Midi, Freestylers and more
7. Your best dj set ever, when and where was it? / At my frineds’ house…just for them )) To be serious, it was in the club Zona (Moscow) in 2006. It’s the one of the biggest rave-clubs in Moscow. I played there 2 times and it was awesome.
8. If I’m not mistaken, then you used to use the name Gnom as a DJ, why did you change it to Poroxx? / It was change of heart in 2004. I mean I had to do something new and I started from my name. You know, ”Gnom” was something about trance, as I only played it then. But later I discovered the other music styles, which became more interesting for me. But at the same time the trance style has always been in my heart. Poroxx – it’s like a new step in my career and it is not dedicated to any of the music styles, it’s just the second Me. It can be either breaks or progressive or electrohouse etc
10. What projects are you participating in at the moment? And what type of music do you play now? / Prospect (with Alex Popov). I play breaks and progressive, depends on occasion or type of party.
11. Where and how often do you DJ? / About 2-3 times a month.
12. When and where is your next DJ set? Generation-4, of course) and then the club Griboedov in St-Petersburg.
13. Your thoughts on the club scene in Estonia..!? I think there is some scene as a fact, but not in a such good level as in other cities.
14. Do you like living in Estonia? / Yeah, this is my home.
15. What is your favorite club in Estonia or Tallinn? / Unfortunately, here’s no any of my favorites. I liked the club Flamingo before.
16. What DJs/producers have influenced you in producing tracks or DJing? I listen to various types of music and artists. I get inspired with it and can use them in my sets. The list includes such names like Cypress Hill, Faithless, Martin Garcia, Dolphin, Anthony Pappa, Delerium.
17. Do you think there should be a government financed TV channel in Estonia? I don’t mind if government supports TV or any other activities, as long as it makes everyone a bit happier.
18. Do you play 12", CD or with the computer? And why? / More often I use CDs, because basically I play those tracks which my familiar producers send me, or I buy some online. But at times I use vinyl.
19. Where do you see yourself as a DJ/producer in 10 years? Nowhere. I’m willing to work in a club and organize my own parties.
20. Any words for fans? It’s time to really get people to join together in the name of music and love, period!
M8 Magazine:
Prospect ‘Tok’ (XETON) Cool selection of styles here covering 3 distinctly different bases of progressive. The Original Mix is a breaks rhythm with an arpeggio synth bassline in the style of Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’ – this sound will never fail to work! With an excellent selection of bleeps and drops it works a treat. Dom Kane’s remix is another different take on things, with a much housier feel and moodier bassline. The Mental Project mix is the one that stands out for us with a very fresh electro house range of sounds, making for a very reliable club track and useful on all sorts of occasions. Really impressed with the different vibes here in each of the mixes provided and definitely worth getting hold of a copy.
IDJ Magazine:
Prospect ’Tok’ - Xeton (XRV011), UK One from Dom Kane’s Xeton Records here. The Original leads you into false sense of security before unleashing a devilish bassline. The label boss offers his own interpretation keeping the bass and adding some keys and more percussion. The Mental Project mix is more to my taste though, taking it in a different angle and giving us a progressive electro house workout.
365 Magazine:
Prospect ’Tok’ (Xeton) (Original): Yowza-nice prog breaks in the intro. Works perfectly around all the blips & sweeps. 7/10 (Dom Kane Mix): phat phat phat! Love the groove that evolves throughout the piece. Just enough acid-ness to give it a funky edge. 8.5/10 (Mental Project Mix): Loved the vocal effects they used. Seemed a really nice blend between funky house & electro, but the bass could’ve been a bit more round & deep in my opinion. 6.5/10
