Basura Blanca

About Me

oozing from the bowels of a town consisting of a hospitality plague and single mums for everyone Basura Blanca call Nellyville home. The three members have all been in many bands before, here and overseas. Nigel Duncan has played in many bands around Nelson and the UK including The legendary Mumblegrunt, Dating Godot, Billy the Wizz, Pi Cart with Dean Raybold, crusty punkers Age of Chaos, and currently plays in ambient band 'The Faraway Tree'. Matt Mason is originally from Auckland's beautiful North Shore but has honed his skills here and the U.S. with his love of Danzig and big bass and cherokee ninja facial hair!! Past bands include This Is Not A Miracle, The Thin Men and Helleaven. Aidan McDonald has lived between Nelson and Wellington playing in bands over the last 17 years including Malice in Wonderland, Lost Property, Hip Diddler, Bitch,Killtrain, Pisstaken Identity, Backyard Burial, School of Meat, Charity Fuck, 2 on Glue,Cameltoe, and a few others. Matt and Aidan hooked up after Matt put an advert in a local cafe for members to start a 'Misfits' covers band. Both with a big love of early Misfits they hit it off immediately. Now its quite hard to find drummers in this town so they set about headhunting Nigel and after constant nagging he agreed to have a jam. At the time local hero Steve Daubney was pegged to be our Glen Danzig and the four of us started out learning about 20 old Misfits tunes and jammin out. After a while Steves job got the better of him and he couldnt commit to the band so Aidan took over the vocal duties and they started to write their own tunes and thats what you are hearing today. With a love of basically all types of music the band hopes to play with as many different bands as possible and inspire what once was one of the best live music scenes in the country back to life. thanks.
