Peter van Munster studied the flute at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Frans Vester. After appointments in the Brabants Orchestra and the Residentie Orchestra (a.o. for piccolo) he became in 1960 first flutist of the Dutch Radio Orchestra. In this period he studied for some month with the French flutist André Jaunet in Zurich. In 1965 Peter van Munster won the first prize in the Competition for the EMS - Culture Prize in Scheveningen. Next to his work in the orchestra he performed often as a soloist and a chamber musician in The Netherlands and abroad. With the composer Jan van Vlijmen Peter van Munster formed a duo that performed mainly contemporary music. Since 1970 he held a position as professor of flute and flute didactics at the Utrecht Conservatory, the North Netherlands Conservatoire in Groningen and the Royal Conservatory at The Hague. After his retirement Peter van Munster’s activities moved to musicological work by means of the computer. Peter van Munster - Musicological Desktop Publishing is a small one-man company.
Some fifteen or so years ago, I began to collect titles for my Repertoire Catalogue for Piccolo, Alto flute and Bass Flute.
Through this website I would like to draw your attention to this catalogue, which was published by the Italian publishing house Riverberi Sonori in Rome in 2004.
A special thing of this catalogue is, that beside music for the above mentioned instruments, I also listed ca. 900 works for flute choir or flute orchestra; a wealth of flute choir music from all over the world.
The catalogue is written in the English language. It had favourable reviews in Germany (Tibia), England (Pan) and the United States (Magazine of the Seattle Flute Society).
After the publishing in 2004 I have continued collecting new data for a possible new edition. But since a second edtion is not yet available, it seemed a good idea to me to put a list that comprises more than 500 new titels, on this website as a sort of supplement. You can go view them on my website .
