About Me

About Juanita Brandt
Born in Regina Saskatchewan, Juanita lived with her older sister, younger brother and Dad. They lived in Regina for the most part, but spent a few years on a small farm outside the rural community of Earl Grey Saskatchewan. Leading a pretty simple life, a lot of time was spent riding horses and playing outside. The desire to write music didn’t come until Juanita was about 16 years old.
She started writing songs because she really wanted to sing. In her words, “I couldn’t seem to remember all the lyrics to songs on the radio, and when the chorus came and I wanted to ‘belt it’ but I had no words! So, I started making up my own.” She is a self-taught singer and guitar player, taking leads from her forth grade ukulele training! Playing in the style of roots, country and folk for the most part, a little blues and jazz influence shows up here and there too.
For the most part, 15 years passed with scarce a performance from Juanita, she, “pretty much kept it all to myself…” She made her Calgary debut the first week of January of 2007, at a Bar Named Sue, at which point she shifted gears and it has been full steam ahead since! She has since been playing the local live music venues and is now venturing outward into the Calgary surrounding area, into Saskatchewan and and Manitoba, spreading her name and sharing her songs.
She started work on the studio recording of her first album, Prairie Girl, in March, 2008. She worked with Rob Smith at Rocky Mountain Recording Studio, as well as with some of the finest musicians in Calgary such as: Dave Bauer, Spider Bishop, Pete Christian, Charlie Hase, Geoff Hilhorst and Pat Phillips.

In other news: Catch Juanita on stage with The Culls! She is their newest and most female member. Find her on lead and support vocals, guitar and mandolin! (and hopefully not on the floor after too many whiskeys) Just kidding, she's not that kind of girl. But the band does like to have a good time, so check out a show in your town soon!
Last but not least: Another reason to sing! She has recently been collaborating with Will White from the fabulous bluegrass band Widow Maker. They sing pretty and play nice. Check’em out on a stage near you!
