About Me

Raised in the great delta region of mid Somerset Francis Smith was the first born of a large family of plantation labourers. His first musical memories are of the powerful accapella harmonies of men returning from the fields. Francis left home at an early age and spent a number of years on the road, singing for his dinner. Dinner was scarce. This "lost" period culminated in Francis finding God and then loosing him at the back of a grainer in the middle of a Farrington Gurney hotshot. However what remained with Francis is a deep rooted love of Peggy Lee, badgers and an urge to follow folk with mullets. Spiritually Francis maintains the strict "Don't turn it loose 'cause its a muva" lifestyle, famously advocated by George Clinton. His rambling days are now over but happily Shadwell life proves muse enough for the continued works of this west country troubadour.

Sounds Like: "Francis Newington, aka LowStrideSeen, plays songs which gradually build, rather than hitting you between the eyes. As they unfold, you realise that he is an extremely insightful and thoughtful performer and his outstanding guitar work complements his semi-crooning vocals perfectly." (Andy- The Icarus Club)
