Ola Palsson

"Swedish jazz with soul and passion"

About Me

Tradition jazz (and blues!) was THE music where Ola Palsson grew up and started playing the cornet in the late fifties. Stockholm was the Scandinavian centre for many bands of which many are still active. From the very beginning Ola fancies the great blues-trumpets from the 20ies: King Oliver, Tommy Ladnier, Bubber Miley. But many years of listening have made him an admirer of all jazz: New Orleans, swing, bop..... as long as it's got the feeling and message. "Chet Baker, Bix Beiderbecke, Clifford Brown or Sidney de Paris, they all speak to my heart". Also a boogiewoogie-pianist and blues-singer, he sings and plays in the tradition of Elmore James, Big Maceo Merryweather, Leroy Carr and others in OLA PALSSONS BOOGIEWOOGIE BOYS. In KUSTBANDET, where he has been a member for 40 years, he is one of three trumpeters. Kustbandet, a 12-piece-band, playing in the big band-style of the early thirties, has toured the world many times and played several times at the New Orleans Jazz festival. He is also features as cornetist in bands like: JESSES NEW ORLEANS BAND and SWING AND SWEET ORCHESTRA. Ola has also performed and recorded with his daughter Hanna Hägglund, famous vocalist in Paris. One of the four tracks features Hanna backed up by Ola's cornet in her beautiful composition "Take me faraway". The three jazz-tracks feature Ola as trumpeter, vocalist and composer.
