I have info on this Barry Dunaway character...he's been spankin' the plank since he was 12. His big bro, 'Don Oja Dunaway' got him into music just in time as he had his heart set on doing nothing but riding dirt bikes and terrorizing the good folks down in South Miami. Fast forward...Don took his little bro on the road at age 16, playing bass for his group Cheyenne. That eventually led him to Atlanta circa 1973. There he worked with 'Silverman' and a whole bunch of eclectic bands that had generated great followings in the region.
In 1980 'Whiteface' asked him to join the band and record their second album for Mercury Records.
A few years later the band 'Riggs' of the "Heavy Metal Movie" fame, asked Barry to join the band and record their second album for Full Moon/Warner Brothers. Then in 1983 Pat Travers hired Jerry Riggs, Pat Marchino and Barry to do the FL. and GA. leg of the "Kiss Army Tour." That lineup recorded a live album for King Biscuit Flower Hour and released on Polygram. In 1985 Barry auditioned for 'Joe Lynn Turner' got the gig and moved to NYC. After the 'Rescue You Tour' ended Barry went back on the road with Pat Travers for another year but in 1987 he had a chance to work with 'Yngwie Malmsteen.' The "Odyssey Tour" lasted nine months and ended in Russia, where they recorded and filmed, "Live In Leningrad."
Next up... 1990, close friends and great band, 'Saraya' invited Barry to do their second album "When The Blackbird Sings." Which was a hell of a cool record, produced by 'Peter Collins'.
In 1992 Barry finished the last two months of the "Fire And Ice Tour," once again back with Yngwie.
1993 led Barry back to Florida and back on the road with Pat Travers.
In 1996 Yngwie asked Barry to go to Brazil and Argentina to support the "Inspiration" album. This led to another world tour, playing on and touring the 1998 "Facing The Animal" record, which went Gold in Japan and "Alchemy" in 1999 which also went Gold in Japan. While touring "Facing the Animal," the band filmed and recorded a DVD/double album, "Live in Brazil." In 2000 Joe Lynn Turner introduced Barry to Larry Hoppen of "Orleans." Joe and Larry were members of a super group, "The Voices of Classic Rock." These were the original singers of multiple platinum and gold record selling bands. Barry nailed his first show with one rehearsal en route to the gig in the tour bus.
For the next five years he worked with "VCR" and singers, Mike Reno/Loverboy, Alex Ligertwood/Santana, Jimi Jamison/Survivor, Pat Travers, Spencer Davis, David Jenkins/Pablo Cruise, Joe Lynn Turner/Rainbow, Deep Purple, Glenn Hughes,Trapeze, Deep Purple, John Cafferty and Michael Antunes/ Beaver Brown Band, Ronnie Hammond/Atlanta Rhythm Section, Sass Jordan, Fergie Frederiksen, Toto and
Larry Hoppen/Orleans. To be continued...
