About Me

Malcolm X (born Malcolm Little; May 19, 1925 – February 21, 1965), also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was a Black Muslim Minister and spokesman for the Nation of Islam. After his split from the Nation of Islam, he founded the Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity.During his life, Malcolm went from being a drug dealer and burglar to one of the most prominent black nationalist leaders in the United States. As a militant leader, Malcolm X advocated black pride, black power, economic self-reliance, and identity politics. He ultimately rose to become a world-renowned African American/Pan-Africanist and human rights activist. In 1952, Malcolm got out of prison and adopted the name "X" stood for the African names of his enslaved ancestors. Malcolm X became the Nation of Islam's' best speaker. He urged African Americans to live separately from whites and win their freedom. Malcolm grew to dislike the Nation of Islams because they avoided politics. Then in 1964, Malcolm left the group. Later he went to Mecca and meet all kinds of Muslims from different ethnic backgrounds. He refused to accept the idea of whites being devils. He then changed his name to El-Hajj Malik El-Shabbazz. When Malcolm came back to the United States, he formed the Organization of Afro-American Unity. He rejected nonviolence as a principle, and he favored nonviolent protests. Some Black Muslim members condemned Malcolm X as a hypocrite because he rejected their "white devil" doctrine. He also criticized their leader, Elijah Muhammad.During a pilgrimage to Mecca in 1964, Malcolm X became a Sunni Muslim. Less than a year later, he was assassinated in Washington Heights on the first day of National Brotherhood Week. Layout Created at Mspremade.com
