Pride Brunch 2008
For the last two years, I have hosted a brunch in my small apartment right before the Gay
Pride Parade, called the Gay Pride Brunch. When I started the brunch in June of 2005,
the atmosphere was welcoming, accepting, and fun. The next year I hosted another one
in that same small apartment and doubled the people that showed up! Afterwards, the
group went off to the parade. This year I have been lucky enough to reserve the Thoreau
Center on 35th and Kingman, and I have decided with all the space there it would be an
awesome opportunity to raise money for two deserving charities – The AIDS Project of Central Iowa and Capital City Pride.
The AIDS Project helps people in Iowa suffering from HIV and AIDS by
providing Meals on Wheels and helping purchase medication for men, women, and
children who are suffering from the virus.
Capital City Pride is a group that welcomes everyone no matter where the person is from
to join in an amazing gay pride event in the heart of Des Moines. Every walk of life joins
in the fun to have a great time and to show their Pride!
The money raised at this event will help support Capital City Pride and people who live
with a very financially draining disease.
Our committee is made up of three core members and many other volunteers. The first is
Anthony Marinaro with Out of Box Event Planning and Management; the second is Lora
Fararacci, a nursing student at DMACC; and the third is myself, the founder of this event.
Our goal is to create an event that is diverse, welcoming, and profitable for these
charities. In order for this event to be truly profitable, we need your help with donations
of food, beverages, art supplies, and your time. Thank you for visiting our site!
