About Me

I am a human rights activist. I hate self-absorbed, uptight, shortsighted, narrow-minded, hippocrits...yeah!...that about covers it! So if you are one or more of these things I probably won't like talking to you. Not to be ego minded but, I really don't think we would have anything in common or to talk about. Love to talk politics but, I will warn you that I am a terminal Democrat. So, if you think that you can change me into a republican you can't. I have thought about my beliefs and I know why I believe the way I do. Don't believe that war is the answer to anything infact it usually does not solve our problems and most often creats more. There are better ways to end disagreements."Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." ~Margaret Mead~

glitter-graphics.comAn Excerpt from the book, "A History of Modern Palestine" by Ilan Pape(Ilan Pape is an Isreali Jew that is both a non-zionist and a historian. He believes that Isreal & Palastine should be one country as well as I do.):"The fact that the students, Palestinians and Jews, wanted to hear the story told from a humanist, not nationalist, ethnic or religious perspective was itself a hopeful sign for the future. It is this perspective that dictates the tone of this book. It is a narrative of those in Palestine who were brutalized and victimized by human follies well known from many other parts in the world. The abusive power used by people against other people in the name of one ideology or another is condemned in this book for being the source of much evil and few blessings. These human ambitions wrought invasions, occupations, expulsions, discrimination, and racism on Palestine. The heroes of this book are therefore the victims of these calamities: women, children, peasants, workers, ordinary city dwellers, peaceniks, human rights activists. The 'villains' to a certain extent are the arrogant generals, greedy politicians, the cynical statesmen and the misogynist men. Many victims were, and still are, the indigenous people of Palestine, the Palestinians; but many of them also belong to the community of the newcomers, now evolving into a second generation of natives, the Jews.We are constantly warned the we should not be slaves of our history and memory...."Many of you that know me, know that I was at a peace conference in Memphis this last fall, 2007. I had the good fortune to make the aquaintance of some Zionist Jews that were at the conference as well. They are Americans but, had been in Isreal this past spring, 2007. I saw all their pictures of Palestine and those of Isreal and yes they had great pictures of the wall and they showed how devistating that wall was to the Palestinian people. I had so many questions for them and know that I drove these poor people up a tree(I can do that if there is something that has a bee in my bonnet). I told them that I felt the European Jewish settlers there had pretty much set up an Aparthied situation in Palestine very much like the European settlers had done in South Africa. They responded by telling me that it was actually worse than Aparthied. That if you wanted to send money to try and help the Palestinian children with education funds, computers, or any kind of support what so ever you would be arrested in America for supporting a terrorist group. HOW CAN CHILDREN BE CONSIDERED TERRORISTS? They were lovely people and I just loved them both to pieces. We disagreed on 1 thing. I feel that Isreal and Palestine should be 1 country as it always has been and they felt Isreal needed a country by itself so there would be a place for Jews to live in case there was another holocaust(heaven forbid). I understand where they were coming from but, I don't think the Palestinians would have cared if the Jews needed to come there as well and they might have been happy to be included in the welcoming them to their country. Palestine non-the-less is a very complicated and sensetive issue for both sides. I can only hope that we can help these people find peace that they deserve so that we can all live at peace with one another.~Lori~
