Stylus

About Me

STYLUS exploded onto the Australian music scene in January 1975 with a version of Seals & Crofts's "Summer Breeze", which was modelled on the Isley Brothers's version of that great song. Summer Breeze went top 5 and by the end of '75, and supports to Ike & Tina Turner, (Australia's) Sherbet and Little River Band, Stylus's debut album (on Atlantic thru WEA) went "gold". By 1978 Stylus had been signed to the giant and prestigious Motown Records in the US. In early '79 things were looking like Stylus would be touring the US, possibly with Hall & Oates. However budget cut-backs at Motown in a suddenly downsizing music business saw the group dropped from Motown's 'Prodigal' label and the group disbanded. In 1998, Toshiba-EMI in Japan released three of the 4 Stylus albums, re-mastered for CD and with magnificent re-prints of the original artwork, plus Japanese language lyrics. This amazing quirk of destiny encouraged the group to re-form and Stylus has performed a number of short runs of shows from 2001 to 2006. "Still Alive", a live "best of" CD was released on Empire Rcords in 2003. All original members are very much 'still alive' and busy and active in their careers.
