Girly Myspace Comments
I am a follower of Jesus Christ and the most important thing to me is teaching my boys the love of God.

I have been married for nine years. Two weeks before we were married Jacob was in a head on collision where his car started on fire. Three citizens worked to get him out of his burning car. Jacob suffered from broken bones and some head injuries. He was out of work the first year and half we were married. He suffered from depression while out of work, but because of our faith and my stubbornness we were able to make it through.
It is hard to feed a marriage when you have small children. It becomes impossible to feed that same relationship when you can’t leave your child with a babysitter. We try to keep lines of communication open at least. Sadly enough it is through Instant Messenger so we can talk to one another and take care of kids too. Heck, and we love to send fun little comments each other on myspace. It keeps the marriage alive! Computers…have helped our relationship a lot!

Our seven year old son is amazingly smart. He does struggle with focus problems and several teachers are concerned about ADD. I have talked to the doctors and they feel that yes he is another child that would follow under the category of ADD/ADHD. I have refused to put him on meds and we are working with diet and supplements trying to help him out. The little man loves science and is talented in music, art, and sports.
The 6 year old son who has been ill since 9 months old with one thing or another. He was diagnosed with Pediatric Bipolar in December 2006. He was also diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder this summer 2007. As of October 2007 our son’s diagnosis list just got longer. He was also diagnosed with Asperger's Disorder. Yet in April 2008 a new doctor says that he isn't Bipolar and has ADD, but has kept the diagnosis of Asperger's.
Bipolar disorder (also known as manic-depression) is a serious but treatable medical illness. It is a disorder of the brain marked by extreme changes in mood, energy, thinking and behavior. Symptoms may be present since infancy or early childhood, or may suddenly emerge in adolescence or adulthood. Until recently, a diagnosis of the disorder was rarely made in childhood. Doctors can now recognize and treat bipolar disorder in young children. Taken from bpkids.org
Sensory Integration Dysfunction (SID, also called sensory processing disorder) is a neurological disorder causing difficulties with processing information from the five classic senses (vision, auditory, touch, olfaction, and taste), the sense of movement (vestibular system), and/or the positional sense (proprioception). For those with SID, sensory information is sensed normally, but perceived abnormally. This is not the same as blindness or deafness, because, unlike those disorders, sensory information is sensed by people with SID, but the information tends to be analyzed by the brain in an unusual way that may cause pain or confusion.
SID can be a disorder on its own, but it can also be a comorbid characteristic of other neurological conditions, including autism spectrum disorders, dyslexia, Developmental Dyspraxia, Tourette's Syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and speech delays, among many others. Unlike many other neurological problems that require validation by a licensed psychiatrist or physician, this condition can only be properly diagnosed by an occupational therapist. There is no known cure; however, there are many treatments available. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The hardest thing about this diagnosis is that we knew Yaakov was a “picky†child. No seams on his socks, no tags, he would cry in large crowds, and little things that kept going to make him into such a “picky†child. It wasn’t like I was going to run to the pediatrician and say my son doesn’t like seam on his socks. I was reading a book on Childhood Bipolar and there was a section on Sensory Processing Disorder. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. My son wasn’t really “picky,†but he had something wrong with him. I finally went to the pediatrician and told him the things he does. That is when we finally took him to an Occupational Therapist (OT) where he has now started therapy. Life is changed so much with this diagnosis not for the bad, but for the better. I now better understand my son. I now understand that I may have to ask if it is too loud, or the smell is to strong, if the touch bugs him, or if he needs to be squeezed harder. I am so grateful for this diagnosis and am grateful for the OT that is working with us. With the SPD he has low muscle tone, which is why we have had to carry him so often. He also works with a physical therapist and he has improved so much.
Individuals with Asperger Syndrome or Asperger's Disorder (AS) can exhibit a variety of characteristics and the disorder can range from mild to severe. Persons with AS show marked deficiencies in social skills, have difficulties with transitions or changes and prefer sameness. They often have obsessive routines and may be preoccupied with a particular subject of interest. They have a great deal of difficulty reading nonverbal cues (body language) and very often the individual with AS has difficulty determining proper body space. Often overly sensitive to sounds, tastes, smells, and sights, the person with AS may prefer soft clothing, certain foods, and be bothered by sounds or lights no one else seems to hear or see. It's important to remember that the person with AS perceives the world very differently. Therefore, many behaviors that seem odd or unusual are due to those neurological differences and not the result of intentional rudeness or bad behavior, and most certainly not the result of "improper parenting".
By definition, those with AS have a normal IQ and many individuals (although not all), exhibit exceptional skill or talent in a specific area. Because of their high degree of functionality and their naiveté, those with AS are often viewed as eccentric or odd and can easily become victims of teasing and bullying. While language development seems, on the surface, normal, individuals with AS often have deficits in pragmatics and prosody. Vocabularies may be extraordinarily rich and some children sound like "little professors." However, persons with AS can be extremely literal and have difficulty using language in a social context. Let us not forget that I am a mother and life as a mother is pretty much summed up in this video.
I have been lucky enough to travel. I visited Europe for five months, Brazil for three months, and have been to Mexico and Canada too. I love to travel and be reminded how lucky we are to live in the U.S.
