It's always intriguing and sometimes surprising how two musicians eventually find their way to each other. You can call it luck, or chance. Or you might just want to call it the way things were meant to be.
In this case, it went something like this: one, a native of Lexington, NC leaves home and goes off to school. The other, a newcomer to the area, searches long and hard for a kindred musical spirit. Then the first moves back home. The newcomer hears the hometown boy perform at a local event. Afterwards they talk about getting together to play sometime. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Steve Lindsley (the newcomer) and Ken “McIver†Davis (the native son) began jamming together in the fall of 2000 and compiled a set list of covers and originals. Each brought a unique element to the duo: Ken a soulful, romantic swagger and Steve a methodic guitar style and precise vocals. Immediately a musical bond formed between the two; and just a month later they performed together for the first time at the popular coffee house and eatery in town, The March Café. In the spring of 2001, having thought long and hard about a name (“Ken and Steve†just didn’t flow off the tongue all that well), they came up with acoustic blend – capturing in one phrase their musical foundation and the coffee house where it all started.
Since then, acoustic blend has been playing regularly, much to the delight of their fans. They've been “regulars†at Childress Vineyards in Lexington, the Wolf’s Lair restaurant in Dobson NC, and the Good Life Café and Scuppernong's in Mount Airy NC. In addition they’ve performed at numerous wineries, country clubs, coffee houses, and community functions across the region. Even with Steve's move up Hwy. 52 to the fabled Mayberry in 2003, they still find time to share their musical gifts together.
When you catch an acoustic blend show you’re guaranteed to experience an entertaining mix of both covers and originals; songs with depth and fun tunes, soothing ballads as well as music you can stomp your feet to. Two guitars playing off each other with great expertise, two voices exchanging strong lead vocals and melodic harmonies – one musical act you don’t want to miss.
