About Me
Zone 7's front man(St Lawrence) was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Introduced to music by his uncle, a professional R&B/Jazz drummer formally while still a toddler.
He was reared in a family that secured and managed clubs. So it made the club a natural place to express himself. He had the pleasure of experiencing legendary clubs like The Garage, Loft, Zanzibar and Better Days to name a few!
Although, musically St. Lawrence began his career as a heavy metal drummer, he was forever changed upon hearing "The Pleasure Seekers" by The System in 1985. It introduced latin percussion and changed his perspective on playing music.
In his very own words, 'My music career began in the early 1980's as a session drummer for various rock bands in NYC's heavy metal scene. By 1984 with a prodigious affinity for house music, I began switching gears to be a part of the scene'.
'There is a certain freedom that househeads display, there's a certain carefree lifestyle that is signature to the music, its very spiritual to the people that are there, so there is always a community. There's a very communal sense when you are inside a house music club.' I am a deep househead, so for me, the love of jazz, African and Latin pecussion based house music makes it better for me.'
In 1987, I began producing house and with some beginners luck, got my first release as a co-producer on an import only on Sutra Records release "House Masters" in 1988. My next break didn't materialize until 1994 with again another import only release from Eight Ball Records Matt Wood's "What Am I Going To Do"(Drum Solo Mix)one of the tracks that was part of the compilation album- "X" by Junior Vasquez and The House of Extravaganza.
I have had the pleasure of working with/being influenced by; T.O. Sweet Candy Store), Andre Collins(Warehouse), Osunlade(Yoruba), Jus Ed Underground Quality/Kazulo), Tyrone Francis, Todd Terry, Louie Lou & Kat Ayala @ ASHE, Louie Vega(MAW), Mr V & Alix Alvarez(Sole Channel) and Frankie Feliciano(Ricanstruction). I am grateful to have them in my circle and the experience is always enlightening. To those I didn't mention, blame my head not my heart you've not been forgotten.
I started Zone 7 Entertainment originally in 1988 to protect and control my entertainment industry interests. I finally in 2001, had my first domestic release on West End Records "Internal Society Vol.1-"Enter the Zone" b/w "Muzik's Hypnotizin".
The record, reviewed by SpeedGarage.com(now BounceFM.com)was quoted as having "mesmerizing melodies".
Industry practices & changes being what they are, St. Lawrence got together with longtime media associate D.R. Williams & fellow music colleague Simone Pimentel in early 2004 to form Zone 7 Entertainment, LLC.
In early 2005 we released "Tribal Drums Along the Skyline,EP", & so begins our discography/history.
