About Me

John Milne is a professional musician based in Glasgow. He is a composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and educator. As a trombonist, he is a member of the soul sensation that is Big Vern 'n' The Shootahs . The recordings on this site feature John on trombone, bass guitar, keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars and (only as a last resort) trumpet. These are (mostly) the jazz funk side of things. I intend to set up another site with music in other styles when the vocal recordings are completed... watch this space. Meanwhile check the John Milne home page for other music clips. His musical interests are wide and varied and has been recorded in styles as diverse as Electronica, Opera, Early Music, Orchestral, Jazz, Rock, Folk, Funk, Blues, and Avante Garde. He has performed on stage with Carla Bley, Kenny Wheeler, Steve Swallow, and Tommy Smith among other Jazz artists and has played with and recorded with Scottish Opera and The Royal Scottish National orchestra. John has recently supported The Old Blind Dogs with newly signed folk artist Jayne Sarah as her accompanying guitarist. He has also arranged for The Royal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by Carl Davis. Other work has seen John perform in film premieres, on soundtracks, and on television themes. John is usually busy arranging music for something or other.
