About Me

Malpais - formed in 2007 by Greg Loftis upon returning to Omaha from stints in many different places and countries. His zest for exploring had brought him to Central America and he heard of a beach called Malpais. Recalling "Brave New World" he traveled to the beautiful place that inspired the ironic name. He returned to his Midwestern home, and with the help of Phil Reno (guitars), Dave & Luke Backhaus (bass/keys), and Scott Evans (drums) - the band was born. In the short life of the group (about a year) they have played around with Cursive, Blue October, Say Anything, The Narrator, Little Brazil, and Ludo to name a few. The style ranges from indie rock to shoe gazer/dream pop - to straight R.E.M style arena alt. rock. Interesting and original, the band is very much at home in front of huge crowds and intimate settings alike. Their debut album was recorded at ARC studios(Connor Oberst and Mike Mogis's) in Omaha with recording guru A.J. Mogis. Alternative Press Magazine recently gave it 4 outta 5 stars.
