FILLER (tribute page)

FILLER is Alex Bandy-Justin Coleman-Justin Bandy-Poncho Contreras. They all met back in high school in Santa Monica. Justin B, Alex B and Justin Coleman had been writing and playing tunes when they hooked up with Poncho. The first songs came to life at Coleman's house, in a bedroom that had been turned into a practice space. It was punk music from the get go, and the songs only got heavier. The first tunes that came to life were SNOTYURBIRFDAY-WORKED-GRIPE-ONE WAY-NON COMPOS MENTIS. They played their first show in Playa Del Rey, it was Halloween, it was a mess...it was beautiful. They quickly built a solid fan base and went into the studio to record their first collection of tunes. With the help of their loyal crew, Ryan M, Apple and Pierre they got to playing shows in Los Angeles. The Natural Fudge Cafe-The Alligator Lounge-The Roxy-The Troubador-The Whiskey (until they were banned from there)-skate parks-random bars and random backyards all became host to their rude awakening. Their crew grew and the shows got bloodier. The next collection of tunes were faster, louder and tighter thanks to the quick hands of Alex and Justin B. They linked up with bands like The Dickies-Boy Hits Car-2Cents-Eyeball-D.I.-Agent Orange...and played a wave of shows in the Sunset Strip and the West Side. They went back into the studio to record their new tunes, POWER-EVERY SINGLE DAY-WHO HELPS(46seconds)-TALL TOM TURKEY-COULDN'T WIN-A NEW PROBLEM and the Inside Out cover NO SPIRITUAL SURRENDER. The bass work of Justin C and the vocals of their singer brought the new tunes to the next level. Not many bands could keep up with speed and well polished work of their tunes. Most punk bands were getting into the pop element that was huge at the time, Filler refused to follow. The end wasn't as dramatic as most other bands.
