In order for any society to survive, it must be sustainable. It must be able to meet the needs of its members or, as history teaches, it will collapse. Consider the ancient Roman empire, for all its wealth, might, and cultural advancement, collapsed not due to external pressure but excess from within.Human needs can be reduced to three basics: food, clothing and shelter, food and shelter being the simplest to assess. As our population increases exponentially, more and more people are not able to meet these most basic of needs. Increasing population means increasing consumption of resources that are finite. This consumption can be referred to as an individual's impact on the environment, and Earth's "carrying capacity" is "that impact which can be absorbed on a sustainable basis. The current array of environmental and social problems illustrates that the manner in which we live is far from sustainable.we do not have to detsroy in order to survive. In reality, in order to insure the welfare of our civilization or "the balance of existance" we must live beyond the commands of human nature and instinct. For what seperates real man from apparent man and animal, is his or her consciousness of their freedom to derive knowledge and conviction. The cultivation of livestock is not a necessity to mans existance. The mass production of anything that leaves us ecologically scarred in no way contributes to the sustainability of the earth and civilization. Its the line between ecology and commerce, so whats the your profit motivation?"Various plant life or animal life... In the end what makes either life form more valuable?" the question of justifying animal or plant consumption is not a matter of which is more valuable. More rather which should be considered a necessity of human life. these entities are both equally valuable for they both share essential contributions to sustanable life on earth. what makes the act of taking life justified is determined by your perception of humanity. while plants do not have a central nervous system, they do not feel pain to any regard, Nor do they develop any emotion. A plant lives and dies without conception of its relevance to life itself. Animals on the other hand, are aware of their purpose, they feel the constant inclination to live and conceive. They feel hunger, they feel pain. Just like you and me..."If you see a starving person in the street with a loaf of bread, and there is no one around to stop you from taking the bread, Any rational person would leave the starving person alone. But this simplistic morality is overlooked on a far grander scale..." ....
